The pool from the dam just above Red Wing all the way down Lake Pepin is Pool 4. Upstream from that dam is pool 3.

The dam just north of Red Wing is 3. The pool below it is 4 which includes Lake Pepin. As for the pail fish you are looking at, those are Sheephead.

ya i wish they were, man those are some of the sickest lookin walleyes i have ever seen! and so then pool #2 is from the ford plant south to 494? i've heard of some real hogs comin from by the dam at the ford plant. where does a guy put in close to the ford plant?

If they look to sick for you, than maybe you should stay home and ice fish. As for the table fare, most people tend to keep them. As for taste they taste like any other walleye. As for fishtheriver.com, this website is probably one of the most informative websites out there relating to the Miss. Just click on the message board and check out the reports on pool 4. I wouldn't recomend not going to pool 2, fishing has really slowed in the past 2 weeks.
Fish on,
Erik

I've fished pool 4 for a couple years now and the walleyes i've caught have been as healthy lookin as the walleyes i've caught anywhere in MN.

Winger, fish prepared correct taste just fine, I personally only keep fish under 20" and release any larger ones. Those fish are off colored due to their enviroment, some are whiter, main channel fish, backwaters walleye much darker. All fish have different shades due to this factor. Golfeye

From the Ford dam to 494 bridge the last time I fished there was all catch an release, so you can't eat them anyway.

You might be mistaking your identification. You might be looking at a Sauger instead of a walleye or it could even be a Saugeye. These fish are very light colored compared to the walleye. As far as the Ford Dam goes, that area is catch and release ONLY!!! There are 2 landings you can use. The one that I launch out of is at the Park. Directions are 494 to Hwy 5 north to 1st exit after you cross the river. STAY TO THE RIGHT on the ramp, there are 2 other roads that peel off this exit. You will come to a stop sign, turn right on River Road and follow it through several stop signs and the park has a stone pillar at the entrance. Follow the road to the end of the park and you'll find the ramp. Good Luck!!
