View Full Version : Aqua vu or OVS for downrigging?
I want to get my boat rigged to watch my trolled lures while I'm downrigging.
Which companies unit is easier to use?

For a permanent type mounted unit, it is hard to beat the Catch Cam. There unit is about the size of a depthfinder and the camera can be attached to the cable or hicht ball with no trouble at all. Check out the ad on the Boats and Motors board.
If you really want a system for downrigging, why don't you buy one.
The strike vision system that's made by Walker Downriggers can be setup and can view a trolled lure down 80 feet in less than 60 seconds...because they don't use coax cable to clip to regular cable. They pass the video and power through their downrigger cable
That cuts drag down about 75%-95% less than aqua vu, ovs, catch cam or anybody elses for that matter.
It's way better but more expensive because you have to buy their special downrigger to handle the special cable.
There's lots of them used here in New York and as far as I know anybody who's tried anything else just gives up.
hope this helps

Try the CatchCam, they have what they call a downrigger fin, which is attached to the back of the camera head. Also the streamline feature of the camera head will flow through the water without resistance. Another feature is the red L.E.D. lights, they actually attrack fish. I have used the CatchCam for over a year now, and they work great.

Just a clarification Stoch.
I didn't mean I knew where there were used Strike vision systems for sale in New York. Only that many are in use in New York.
the problem with catch cam or aqua vu and others is they need both the coax and the downrigger cable so they drag about 10 times as much.and nobody on earth can get a trolled lure on the monitor down deep as quick as on strike vision.
I mean setups at 75 or 100 feet in under a minute.I checked for you though and found their website www.strikevision.com
Maybe they can find you what you're looking for.

Hey Gary,
I'd like to add, the Catch Cam will be able to be purchased, right here on Walleye Central, very soon.
Have fun......R
