Headin' back up this weekend, was wondering if anyone has caught any big eyes? What sizes can be expected out of there? Anyone fish other small lakes around here for eyes? Arthur, Wilhelm?
Thanks,

Howdy,
Every once in awhile someone will get a 24" or so. Generally Pymatuning is a numbers lake. Tons 143/4 inchers. You will get the legal 15" and above but not as usual as just under legal. 50 fish days are not uncommon at all but out of that maybe 3 to 6 fish over 15. Lots of fun though.
The other lakes in Pa are not in season for eyes so don't plan on anything there except crappie.
Mosquito Lake in Ohio is a good choice now for eyes. You won't catch as many fish here , but what you catch is generally nice. 3 to 5 lbers are more numerous here.
If you want big fish & lots of action , head for Port Clinton on Lake Erie. They are getting some fantastic fish right now. Just let those big girls go :-)
Good fishin

I realize eyes aren't in season yet anywhere else, just wanted some future references. Just got the boat last fall, had the fever ever since. Eye medicine is the only known cure. I'll be checkin the board tomorrow. Hook em hard and hang on !

I have had some nice eyes come from Wilhelm for mounting( I am a taxidermist). Also I have caught very nice eyes at Arthur. We catch many of them at night while fishing for wiper. For the longest time Arthur had a minimum size of 20" on the eyes & it sure paid off. Also, look at Shenango Res. nice eyes there too!

I appreciate the info Driftr. A lot of fishing to do this season, hoping to catch some on all these lakes. Good luck this weekend. Looking for reports next week.

Pymatuning is more of a numbers lake than one where you'll bring home a wallhanger. We have been taking some nice fish 20 - 24 inches, but they are scattered among 20 or so 14 to 17 inchers. Now's the time to fish Pymy as the bite is on. You'll have fun if you get into them.
I've also talked to buddies fihing Mosquito who have been doing well, but same scenario - 15 to 20 fish but nothing spectacular.
Nothing beats the hawgs caught in Lake Erie. Last year in the tournament the top ten places had 8 fish totalling 224 inches or more. That's where you get the real pigs. Best of luck.
