Just wondering if anyone has mounted a highspeed vexlar transducer on their bowmount? Is there a bracket out for this? The transducer has the vertical bracket for the transom but will work just like the puck transducer the factory said.

This can be easily done, with the additon of a slightly modified bracket. However, the puck style transducer looks and is so much easire to mount, that I recommend that you spend the money and get the puck style transducer.

I don't know if you have ever used your vexilar in an open boat or not?

Before you spend a lot of time and effort mounting up your unit - you might try it a bit in the sunlight. A few years ago, I tried at some length to use my vexilar in the open boat and bright sun. I finally gave up and went to an LCR.

The display is simply too difficult to see in the open sun. Yes, I realize that you can put on hoods, yes, you can put on filters, yes you can do other things -- bottom line is that the display is very very very very very difficult to read if you have the depth finder mounted in the bow of an open boat.

Mount an LCR in the very same position, and you find that the brighter the sun, the easier it is to read the display.

Unless you really really really want to use your vexilar -- go to an lcr.

Yes the vexilar is quick, accurate, and reliable - and paid for.

However, I simply feel that when fishing an open boat - checking your line, looking at the depth finder, driving your trolling motor, that you miss too much with a flasher.

In the case of ice fishing, where there is nothing else to do -- and you are very very intent on picking up a single fish -- and you are typically fishing in a shelter - out of the direct sun -- the vexilar is an absolute must and I wouldn't be without mine.

However, if you want to mount your puck on your trolling motor - or if you want to mount your high speed transducer -- make up a bracket and go for it. It will work just fine -- if you can work out the visablility issue of the display.

If you have a model that was made in the last three years, the display is about 30% brighter than the old displays. They are still marginal - compared to an LCR - but much better than the original Vexilars.

Enjoy

Just have to respond. Vexilar incomparable for deep precision fishing.I use a bow mount trolling motor on the transom of my Lund. Have a rigid mounted angle lock type Humminbird tansducer (same frequency) aimed under and slightly out to see my lure at 30-40 ft for winter on open water Ozark reservoirs. I am used to it and I can see barrel swivel above the spoon at 50 ft. Use a coffee can painted flat black inside and the sun will not be a significant problem. Learn to fish it and absolutely not even a real good fisherman with an LCR can come close to keeping up with you. Hope not to offend anyone but Will Rogers once said "It aint bragging if a guy can really do it."
