I have just purchased a Quantum Response XTi spinning reel in the 1000 size ( 150 yds of 6 lb line ) and i was going to use it for light rigging and smallmouth bass on a 6'6" ML action St. Croix Avid spinning rod.......... I wanted to know what you guys thought on this reels........... It seems really smooth and I love the bail mechanism ( TiMag )..........it blows those stradics and symetre's out of the water as far as how solid and smoothe it feels and for the price........I think quantum has a winner here for the next coupla years...........

What do you think??

I completely agree that the TI quantum is a very excellent reel.

However, I have to disagree with you, when you say that it blows the other two reels that you mention out of the water.

Both of the reels mentioned are very fine reels in their own right.
My definition of an excellent reel is as follows:
1. Excellent drag.
2. Long cast spool.
3. Anti twist roller bearing on the bail.
4. No break bail spring or equivalent.
5. Anti reverse.
6. Ultra smooth gears with absolutely no "catch" any where in the gears.
7. Good balance
8. Reasonable weight for the available line capacity.
9. Hardened lip on the spools to prevent line wear -- similar to titanium.
10. Preferably a flat paddle handle with a "Krypton" handle non slip material.

With the possible exception of item 10 - all reels that you mention meet my criteria for a top quality spinning reel, as do many many other spinning reels on the market. I think that each person, has to decide what makes the reel good, bad, or exceptional for them.

Having decided that - one must realize that the competition is out there always trying to do one better than the other guy, and always trying to insure that the best features are on their product at a price that the consumer is willing to pay.

Having said that -- I absolutely agree with your opinion of your reeel -- A great reel indeed.

Take care
