View Full Version : Auger Mount for Snowcat
I've got a polaris widetrack, and am wondering if anyone
has found anything for mounting a auger to the cargo rack
on the back of the machine. I'm tired of the gas cap getting
knocked of inside the ottersled and dealing with gas fumes all day. Any Ideas?
Thanks!

Try strapping the auger down in the Otter Sled. I run mine in the same sled and have a couple bungie cords for that very reason. I drilled 1/8" holes in the lip of the sled where I attach the bungie hooks. Another idea I have seen is to fabricate a plywood divider that sets upright in the otter to keep gear from sliding around. Too much monkey business for me, but you might find that option to be better than finding or making a carrier for your snowcat.

Dave,
I make racks for ATV's and one of my new products you will see out next year is a rack that will haul a Auger, along with a rack that hauls your portable on the back of the ATV. I also have a fish house that folds right off the back of the ATV. I have some auger racks you can try for free - demos - I didn't make them for snowmobiles but you can see if they work as long as you send me a photo if they do.
email me with your address.

To avoid that very problem, I went over to wall mart the other day and picked up a rubbermaid plastic tub. I found one that was exactly as wide as the handles of the ice auger. I then laid the auger in the tub, and marked the side where the auger was located. I used a sabre saw to notch the side of the tub - down just far enough so that the auger lies flat.
Then when going anywhere - I simply lay the rubber tub in place - drop the auger into the notch - throw a bungee over everything and I am good to go. The tub keeps anything from running into any part of the power head -- and if you do have the misfortune of losing a gas cap -- all of the gas is confined to the tub. I also keep a quart of pre mixed gas in an empty oil bottle that I leave in the tub - along with my small bottle of propane for my heater. Works very well - no muss - no fuss - and nothing spilled into the shelter.
If something does happen to get spilled - I simply flush it out at the car wash, the next time I wash the car.
If you get the tub the right height - you can even snap a cover on the top - and keep the "stuff" from bouncing out - and or getting slushed, or snowed on.
Take care

Ryan, where are you located? I have several ideas for snowcat racks. I have looked at many over the years and they are all missing one compenent or another and therefore fall short of meeting the needs of many ice fisherman, sledders etc. Most guys are looking for more then whats offered and add makeshift rigs them selves..kinda.
E-mail me and we can compare notes.
