From the looks of the iceobars for the rest of the week on the weather channel. The lake should resemble choclate milk by the weekend. I would consider another lake. "COMA"

fished storm lake sat. afternoon ......from shore. wind blowing 30-40. impossible to cast jigs as planned so went with 2 oz. bell sinkers / slider rig with 2" fatheads and 4" shinners. only way to keep bait from washing on shore or line reasonably tight. we got one 19" fish....missed 3-4 fish, probally sensing the heavy sinker before we could set the hook. rods would bounce once but couldn't tell if wind or bite.....then would bounce real good, had to have rod in hand to set hook immediately. saw several fish get pushed into shore as waves broke and would then recover and swim out. was fishing on east side....sand gravel shoreline that tapers too much for good shore fishing but the rocky shorelines on north side of lake were unfishable. gave up after 90 minutes. yes, the lake is dirty so have to fish the shoreline.....very shallow. also seems the predeator / prey relationship is out of wack....shad population is apparently low. winter bite was the best since '89 when shad pop. was low....that spring and summer was the best fishing I had seen in 30 years of fishing storm. the 19" was thin...as many of the fish have been this spring. another indicator of forage shortage. these fish are hungry and spawn has been over for 3 weeks. with heavy rain tonight....I would start thinking about using crawlers...tipped on a jig or on a spinner rig....seems more productive at storm when water is dirty..even when water temps are rather low yet for 1st of may. but think shoreline areas, even if dead calm this weekend, until the water clears a bit. the shad will recover quickly so don't feel obligated to harvest many fish... I suspect the lake will be pressured this year...wouldn't mind having some fish left for next winter.
