Don't mean to be a sour grape, but i'm afraid the Mayfly hatch has already begun. Came off the lake Sunday night, May 20th, and started to see their shells across the top of the water. A few walleyes we caught have already loaded up on them in their bellies. Fellas, I'm done walleye fishing until late June. -Out -Jim Nolan

Fished Erie Saturday & Sunday May 20. Tough conditions but worth the effort. Caught several 6lb+ trolling deep runner crankbaits straight behind the boat 200'. 5pm - 8pm. Fished the windward side of those mayfly shells.

Jim, Hundreds of thousands of walleye are going to be caught between now and the end of June by anglers adapting to the hatch and using small lures, often in gold or copper finish. The major mayfly hatch won't begin until mid-June. Are you sure you want to miss so much good fishing?
