LAST EDITED ON May-27-01 AT 04:32AM (CST)[p]Family Camping Ctr. located at 2318 East Harbor Rd(sr-163). Just East of Port Clinton has some tent camping sites, also cabins if you are interested. Mid-Way marina, ~3 miles north on sr-53 from sr-163 will rent you a dock by the day or week. Family camping has a web site, it is http://www.gocampingamerica.com/familycamp/index.html

East Harbor State Park is a good choice for camping. It has all the things you need as far as a commissary, showers, etc.. It is pretty much in the middle of the bite right now. Kelly's to the right, Port Clinton to the left. If you are going to trailer your boat, Use the docks at Catawba State Park. They are in good shape. With plenty of water If you are heading towards Port Clinton. Use Mazurik Access if heading towards Kelly's.

Instigator,

There have been good catches made out north of Kellys and west of the bass islands as well as north of west sister island. Use smaller cranks like Deep Little rippers off planer boards or Michigan Stinger Spoons behind 20 Jets or 0 Dipsys. Coppers and golds have been best. Drifters are catchin fish with gold weapons or mayfly rigs. In either case use only a small piece of worm. The fish have started to show up at Huron and Vermilion as well in 30 - 32' of water.

For Erie questions go to boatohio, then click on boating forums, then on ask the expert. See you there.

Good luck and enjoy your week.

Kelly's Island State Park.On the North shore of Kelly's. From Marblehead take 2nd ferry service (called Kellys Island Ferry not Neuman's). $70.00 will take 2 adults, van & boat/trailor round trip across. $20.00 a nite will put your tent at the water's edge or $14.00 non water front. Great concrete ramp in walking distance and fish cleaning house also. If you must leave boat in water overnight , it's best left at Marina on south side of island. The ramp is protected by breakwall but has no overnight dock.
Ferry & camp are an added expense , but if ya only make it up once or twice a year it's well worth the journey. No long boat ride needed to find fish (walleye or smallie's). I take the boys on this gig every spring. If the lake is too choppy , just get around to Leeward side. Done good trolling spoons/inline boards on N.W corner May 11th.

Good Luck,
RC

I've used Neuman's Ferry a few times (1st one if coming from the west). I like them. Didn't know of the 2nd one. Neuman's was $44.50 round trip, pickup, 16' boat, 2 adults this spring.

RC - Any reason to favor Kelly's Island Ferry?

Also, does anyone know of any Kelly's Island private ramps other than the #@% narrow, winding, steep one on the south shore? $6.00 bucks is fair and it beats not fishing when there is a strong N/NE wind, but it's tough on my clutch.
