Has anyone come up with a good solution for lcr graphs (bottomline) blanking out due to the hot sun. It's tough to shade it in my pro-v. A damp towel dropped over the back seems to help for a short time. Thinking about a battery operated fan for those really hot days! I love the unit other than that and am verry confident in what I'm reading after spending a day with an aquaview.

Send it back. You have a design or component problem.
There have been a couple of other manufacturers out there with exactly the same problem. In chatting with their engineering staff, it has to do with the use of an LCR display that was intended for indoor use, using it out in the bright sun, and then not designing in proper temperature compensation. My understanding is that the well designed units use a thermister to sense the temperature inside the case, and adjust voltages and driver outputs accordingly.

There are many manufacturers out there who have depth finders in constant use in the very heart of the sun belt -- which never blank out in the highest temperatures.

The vendor should stand behind their product.

Take care

I bought the HR unit and it had that problem so I traded in on the NCC5300 and this unit works great.

I had the same problem last year so I called Bottomline and they said to send in the unit-- it had a broken temperature compensation system. They replaced the display and now it works fine. I used to have to fiddle with the contrast all day, and keep a wet towel on it in the sun.
