I was thinking of coming over Fri. morning or evening (would rather fish night) I'll be use jigs. Could anyone help me out on a place to start from. I see people talking about worms plastic? As in powerworms? I don't handline but what about three-way rig? Thank You for any help. Tim

Have found it is too hard to fish at night jigging. You just cant see the line. Yes, Berkley power worms cost more, but I think they produce alot better over generic worms. Myself and my buddy split on 2, 100 bags of 4 inch powerworms(pumpkinseed) finesse tail, this is pretty much the only rubber we use all year. As far as three ways, yes ive seen it work very well, just have to watch for boats falling in behind. I also have seen straight lining pencil plugs at night in very shallow water 1-7 feet work extermely well(recently). It would also be wise to anchor off a point or reef and cast jigs and husky jerks, up into the shallows. Mud island and the steel plants is always a good place to try at night. Just make sure you know where you are going, if you are not extremely familiar with this river night time can cost you more than a prop. Be careful, good luck.

Hunter covered it, All I say is get a Nav Map and learn the water during the day, then hit it after sundown,

Ok day time it is much wiser it sounds. I have a fishing spots map is this thing accurate? Just north of Mud Island it shows 10 stacks. The steel mill? Are the launches shown on the map in that area useable? Thanks for your help. Tim

The launch depends you use depends on you rig,nav maps are better
where ever you launch ask anyone and everone where the sand bars and other dangers are, every year someone launches out of Pa Pa louies and hits full throttle to make the run north of mud and they run aground on the sand bars south of mud, pay attention to the bouys that are out there,Remember: you can't catch fish if your not in the water,,,applies to your lure's not YOU

ditto tiger and hunter know that area well papas is a good place to dump you are close to some action there to answer your ? on 3 ways you will produce with them (its handlining with a pole) dont know what kind of moter you have but make sure you can go slow and get 3-7 (or more if you can find them) pencils sinkers got to be bouncin bottem another way is to let the current take you downstream and run bottem bouncers with spinners or with a jig and worm 1 ounce or better you are in 30 ft or better down there

How slow? I have a 40hp mariner it's brand new runs great but I can only troll down to 2mph according to the gps. But I have a excellent minna kota 24volt that trolls well. Use eletric or is the current such that you need gas. How could I slow the darn thing down? Here I can use a sox but sounds to snaggy there. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.

Use the 40. Speeds can be pretty quick late at night. Current would be too strong to troll with the electric, great for jigging, or if you want to drift a shoreline casting for eyes.
Dont be scared to go out at night, go out early evening G.P.S. your route out from the marina. As soon you get in the channels, it is generally pretty easy no navigate. Just use your head.
Go fish by the first steel plant in 30 feet of water is good to start. Just before you get to the marinas with the boblo boats in them, there is a natural shoreline, with a water discharge coming out of it. Check this shoreline for a place to anchor after dark. It gets very shallow here, but this is an excellent place to night fish. But if there are a bunch of boats working this shoreline, you WILL NOT be able to anchor. This is a very good 400 yards to longline late, im talking midnight+. This is my most cosistant spot to fish on the river.
If you stay out after dark, and you dont get any hits for the first hour and a half, stick with it, they seem to shut down right before dark. But around 11:00 the big ones are shallow and very hungry. People say all the big ones are back in the lakes. I tell them to go buy a headlamp!
You can launch in Windsor just under the bridge. From there you can go to downtown or downriver & it's all deep until you get to fighting island. Also lasalle has a very nice ramp & at night there is nobody.Your are almost directly across from the steel mills.I tried night fishing a few times, much more fun during the day.
