I have a pair of off-shore planer boards but am having a time getting them to stay on my Berkely fireline. Anyone have any tips? Thanks to all.

You have 3 options: 1. wrap the fireline around the front clip; 2. get the new snapper releases from off shore or 3. try the new red releases with a dimple in the center .

The most positive solution would be the snapper releases. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Another option is to remove the off shore releases and replace them with roach clips.

What is a roach clip and where can I get one? I have the same problem with my In-Line planer board.

What's a roach clip?????? where were you between 1960 and 1980?
they are commonly called aligator clips that are used for making temporary electrical connections (or holding roaches) they are spring loaded steel clips with little teeth on one end and a round end that you crimp onto a wire to make a jumper connection
any auto parts or hardware store will carry them.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-10-01 AT 06:15PM (CST)[p]surely you jest? Roach clips in this case are the type of clips used on Gary Roach inline boards.Should be available from better stocked tackle shops.Or go to DENS Sportsmans outpost link on sponsers page of WC.

I would go with the red releases before a roach clip, that would have to wear on the line. I know that Puff the magic Dragon was not a song about a mythical creature. Old enough to know better.

Was funny.

Also referred to as Church tackle clips. They don't look like much, but are excellent. Can't speak about the newer dimpled offshore product. But the roach clips hold up much longer than the older offshore clips and do not cause any wear on fireline. Seem to work fine with mono, but my experience is limited. I use a version of the Offshore snapper made by Wille (previous manufacturer??) for estremely heavy snap weight applications and they are good, but twice as expensive.

If you have metal arms on the offshores, just flatten the little metal tab and use a conventional nut/lockwasher.

If you have the newer version with plastic arms, you can simply attach the roach clip upside down on the underside. I haven't used one rigged like this, but I set a buddy up with this setup & he's happy. If it was mine, I would have filed off the bump on top, but wasn't prepared to do it to someone else's the 1st time.

Are Roach Clips the ones on the Mr. Walleye boards??? I have a set of those and have been impressed at how well they hold on fireline or fusion. With the off-shores I've always had to wrap the line around the front clip and that's not always easy to do when you're bouncing around in the boat.
