Hi, I am heading up to Mille Lacs Tuesday and I was wondering what the report was from the weekend. I am planning on fishing the flats, specifically Seguci (sp) and 8 and 9 mile. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Fished Mille Lacs Friday & Saturday, June 8 & 9, and found good fish on the gravel. The five mile gravel bar produced good fishing. Saturday caught 17 eyes in about five hours. All sizes from 12 inches to 24 inches. Only two keepers in the new 16 to 18 inch slot.
Slow presentation on a five foot snell tipped with a leech, also had a colored bead for an attractor. Best depth was 28 ft to 31 ft.
Good luck.

I was up on Thursday - excellent fishing as well.
4 lb test, #4 hook, 1/8 oz split shot 4 feet up the line - three feet off the bottom. 30-32 feet of water off the windward side of the flats.
Tried lots of other presentations, but this is what worked well for me. There was still some mayfly activity going on - every now and then, I would see a big walleye surface, and scarf down a mouthful of mayflies. If there have been no further hatches, the fishing will be even better.
I expect that that is one of the reason, that I had luck with the line so far off the bottom - the flies are still rising up out of the mud, and the fish are coming up for them.
Take care
REW
Again, lots of fish - few in the slot.

I am primarily looking for bigger fish. If I want eaters I'll go to Winni or a smaller lake. I'm fine with catching big fish I can't keep. Am bringing a guy up that doesn't get to Mille Lacs much so it would be nice to catch some numbers too. Any more info would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

If your looking for big fish almost any of the mud flats will produce them.Seguchi flat is a top choice along with SW 8 Mile,Shermans Cut,Fish House flat.Don't overlook the shallower shoreline weed lines.Try running crankbaits over the tops, this not only produced big fish but slots as well.Good Luck.

I spent several recent days on Mille Lacs fished Seguchi several times with very little luck (didn't mark much either). Although it can change any day on that flat. Nine mile, Eight mile, Fishers, and Greggs, are all holding a lot of fish. My biggest fish all came trolling cranks on the gravel. A number nine perch colored shad rap did better than anything else with a hundred feet out. On the mud, I found trolling fairly fast worked best for bigger fish. I used a 3/4 oz. egg sinker, 12 ft. snell, and #6 hook with a leech. All of my bigger fish (26"+)on the mud came right on the edge or off the edge of the flat.
