Looking for some info on boat ramps, hotels or cabins. Possibly some directions on where to fish. A buddy and myself have been wanting to fish Mille lacs for awhile now. Were planning on making the trip this Friday. Were travling from Cedar Rapids Ia. Looking for a place to stay and maybe a few starter spots to fish. Doesn't have to be your secret spot just somewhere to get started. any info would be grateful.

Thanks for the help WALLEYEIA

I made the trip from Iowa to Mille Lacs a week ago. We were fishing the mud flats, and had our best luck on 8 mile flat and Seguchie flat. The closest public ramp that I am aware of is just North of the Casino. It is known as Cash's ramp because the old Cash's store is right across the road. There is also a public ramp just South of Garrison, this would work as well. If you are looking for a motel room therre is an Ecno Lodge south of the casino on 169 and a Country Inn in Garrison. There is also motel at the Casino. If you have a GPS, I would get a King Tutt's Walleye Whiffer II lake map, it has all of the GPS locations marked on it. It is $17-$20 but is the only map you will need. Stop at Cabela's on the way, they have them. I was using 7ft Lindy rigs with 4-6 lb test and leeches. I heard that spinner rigs and crawlers were doing well also. Good luck, Mille Lacs is hot!!!

I hope you know there's a slot on the big lake 16 to 18 keep! below and above all go back. One over 30"
Make sure you use a tape on the fish and squeeze the tail i've heard some bad stories of the co redoing the fish with a tape and were a 1/8" to long. Be carefull! mk

Enjoy the day on Mille Lacs.
Remember, if you have a slow day of fishing for walleys, go to the rock piles and throw tube jigs, or a split shot and crawler on the rocks, to pick up trophy small mouth bass.

You can also work the weed beds for trophy northerns and muskies. Of course the majority of all of these fish get put back, but it is certainly enjoyable in catching them.

Take care

p.s.
Mille Lacs also has 1-2 lb crappies, when you can find them.
There are a couple of guides on the lake which specialize in finding the huge crappies.

The south end gravel has been hot as well as 7 mile flat. You can also keep tabs on the fishing by going to www.Lundeens.com. They post weekly updates on how fishing is and what's working. They are located at the south end of Mille Lacs in case you want to stop in on your way up for bait. There is also a public access just east of there in Cove Bay. There is also a nice marina at Izaty's Lodge a little further tot he east. You'll have to pay to launch your boat, but there will be fewer people than at the public access.

Good luck!

If you only need a dry place to with a couple of beds. Give Pat's Sportshop and Motel at call 320-676-3525. I stayed there a couple of weeks ago and it $40 night. You can walk to the dinner for breakfast, the bait shop, and the Isle public launch is just a few blocks away. We were there 2 weeks ago fishing a USFA event. Went through about 50 fish in 2 days to weigh 2 fish. Bring alot of film and you should have a blast. We fished the gravel with crawler harnesses (sp). We had the best luck around 26'.

Good luck and have fun!

Most of the fish we were catching were in the 20 inch range. WE got a few slots but most were too big.
