I fish the spring walleye bite at Black River and the local bays(Chaumont, etc) and was thinking about a July trip with my son. I limited out with 6-9 lb fish Memorial Day weekend trolling bottom bouncers in 3-8' in the bay and trolling Ripsticks (blue/silver) in Chaumont Bay. Is this area any good in July, or should I try another area, maybe in Lake Ontario itself? If that's the case, any GPS#s would be helpful, as well as launch sites. I run a Crestliner Fish hawk 1750,w/ a 70 and 9.9 combo, inline planers and downrigger setup available.
Thanks for any help.

Hello, I've always wanted to try the Black River and Cham. Bay. I was at the black river but the wind was up and all I had was my small 14 footer. So we went to the Oswego river. I just purchased a 16-6 Alumacraft and would like to try it next year. Any tips or info. would be appreciated. Thanks JG

I have fished the Black river ,the bay and the surounding bays for the last 3 years, and this was the first year of limiting out. I put in at the Dexter Municipal Ramp, and there is a bait shop at the ramp. I have trolled walleye in the river(smallies, too), but the larger walleye have been in Black River Bay. The first 2 years I drifted crawler harnesses, as the bait shop recommended,in the 12-16' range, but this year I trolled harnesses, in the 3-6' range, and limited out plus. The only harness that caught was a Cabelas harness, 4-6' off a bottom bouncer. I also trolled 2 8+ lb. walleye in Chaumont Bay on blue/silver Ripsticks. All my fishing in the area was done Memorial day weekend, and I am still wondering if the walleye are still in the bays in July, or are the in Lake Ontario offshore, suspended?
