LAST EDITED ON Jul-01-01 AT 08:30AM (CST)[p] Just wondering where the bite was today. Has any one caught any fish the last couple of days off the impact area, or around the islands? I know the bite is still hot out at the shipping channel but that is a long haul for me (24 miles one way) but if that's what it takes oh well. Thanks in advance.

Groovymoe,
You are correct about the walleye fishing around the Toledo Shipping Channel. Those fish continue to be extremely active. Alot
of quick limits being reported. Also, to answer your question. We
have been taking good numbers of walleye around Round Reef both Saturday thru today (Tues.) Quick limits. Hopefully they will stay active through this coming weekend.
Point to remember. These fish both off Toledo and Round Reef are very high. We have been using front weighted lures, and weapons. Gold by far is the best color. Splash to a five count no deeper.
Good Fishing.

Are you working the 20' water to the East of Round?

When you say front weighted lures are you refering to something like a Pa's deep diving lures?

Marble Eyes,
I was refering to lures like the Erie Dearies, Big Johns etc.. However, the trollers are doing well also. The small scorpion spoons and 1/4 oz. Hot'n Tot's are producing well. Just remember the fish are very active in the upper 10' if water. Good Fishing.

Groovymoe,
I was fishing southeast of the reef and actually went in to water as shallow as 14'. They are catching them all around that area. As high as this fish are just stay away from the large packs and you should do well.

Thanks Capt.,
For someone that is not familiar with that area could you suggest where would be a good place to get some tackle and launch out of?
I live in Michigan and have thought about coming down to try it for a day or so?

Thanks Capt. I was thinking of giving it a try On Wed. But was waiting to see if the water had cleaned up any. Last word I got was on Monday, and that report was the water was pretty dirty.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-03-01 AT 12:36PM (CST)[p]Can you help me out on the Questions I possed to the Capt.?
Where is a good place to launch down there close to the shipping channel? how far out in the Shipping Channel do they usually fish for the Walleyes. And how far out is the reefs that you are talking about?
Just out of curiousity, how big of a boat do you use?

You could launch out of Bolles Harbor. That would be exit #11 of off I-75 just south of Monroe. That would put you within maybe 7 - 8 miles of where the fish have been schooling near the shipping channel.

Thanks BobZ, is there a baitshop right there handy that I can get a Ohio Fishing license and the appropriate tackle and bait?

Groovymoe,
Water around round reef has become dirty. However, they are still taking fish. The best place yesturday was 4 miles north of Niagra Reef. The grade of fish was better than what we were getting inside. Water clarity was much better also. I plan on fishing this area the next couple of days. Good Fishing.

If any one is coming from Mich to fish Erie a stop at Brest Bay at Dixie Rd exit off I-75 near Monroe , Mich should be a consideration . We fished Tuesday limiting out right away using bottem bouncers and crawer rigs . The wind was brisk enough to also troll hot-n-tots behind 1/2 in-line weights . Double and triple hook us were the norm in front of Stoney Point in 19-22 fow . Talk to the bait shops on Dixie Rd.
Go get some !

Marble eyes, I'm not sure of any launches west of Port Clinton that are still usable due to low water. I fished the area south of round reef on Wed. And caught a limit. The fish weren't large but acceptable. All were caught on a chart. green weight forward.

Capt. I fished south of Round on Wed. Caught a limit pretty quick on a home made weight forward. The color is is a chart. green w/ chrome blade. It was pretty decent when I first sat down but the water condition deteriorated rather quickly. The fish weren't huge but acceptable. A buddy of mine went 15 miles straight out of the Portage, and was done by 11 am.. His fish were a better quality. Thanks for the tip.

There are two bait shops between the lake and I-75. Both should be able to provide Ohio license.
