I am in the process of putting together The Walleye Challenge fishing event for this summer. I talked about a while back and I am going to try and get this off the ground through my new web page. I have the format all figured out, with a few minor adjustments yet to be maid. For the first year I am going to start it off pretty basic and small and just let everyone have fun with it. It will be an inches event format, it will run May 1st until August 1st for anyone who registers. You can fish anywhere in the US or Canada to try and catch the big one! I will have all the details out very soon about the rules and things. What I am looking for, is some people to donate some different items for the prizes. It will be a cash payback of course, but I would like to spice it up adding some nice prizes from anyone willing to donate. I will aknowledge everyone who donates prizes on the my page plus it is a write off :). I am also all ears if any of you have some ideas to zip at me! I am looking forward to getting this off the ground, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I will! Remember, anyone can sign up and have a chance to catch the big one. I will keep everyone posted on when it is finished! Good fishing and don't forget to shoot the puck. Mike Peluso #999 www.mikepeluso.net

sounds like alot of fun, here are some random thoughts on your undertaking: i like the idea that no one has to travel to fish competitively. it would be nice if there were some age brackets for kids or at least a children’s category. i don't think it would be fair to have kids fishing against some of the great talent out there, it guarantees at least one kid will win and introducing kids is very important to the sport we are so passionate about. you may have already considered these things...keep your eyes on the puck! :o

...and anglers from states where walleyes aren't native, like Utah, should get a 4" handicap. :) Great idea!!

Great idea for those of us who have no interest in tournament fishing and like to stick close to home. Not so sure about any handicap for non-native walleye states, however. The Columbia (Oregon/Washington) is not native walleye country - would you give those anglers a handicap? I think not. Also, look at the In-Fisherman Master Angler rules. They have a consistent 10#, 29" minimum in all zones of US and Canada.
Perhaps a better idea might be to have some prizes on a state by state basis. Not necessarily the main cash prizes, but something to recognize the top one or two fish entered from each state. Perhaps the donated prizes could go to state winners. Or even automatic entry into the next year's competition plus a plaque or certificate.
Just some thoughts. I'm sure there will be more. Whatever, it sounds like fun! Any idea what the entry fees might be?

I will start it at $25.00. If I get a lot of feeback good or bad I will adjust it before I announce everything. Keep the ideas coming, so far so good from what you are putting down and what I have decided so far! Good fishing and don't forget to shoot the puck. Mike Peluso #999 www.mikepeluso.net
