Fort Peck walleye fishing is getting hot. Last Sunday we had walleyes that weighed 8,7.5,7.5,6.5,6.5,5.5 and the big one got away at the boat. It would have gone over 10 lbs. We also caught 5 northerns ranging from 7-14 lbs. and we lost 3 larger northerns. We caught an 11.5 lb. walleye the day before. The water temps. have finally reached 64 degrees on the main lake and the bite is on. We caught most of these fish on cranks in 12-20 feet of water and we have been catching quite a few in the 6-10 lb. range.Crawler harnesses and also jigs have been working well.
Sounds Smokin' Trapper, How does the water level compare to last year? Thanks in advance.

I'm headed to Peck this weekend, can you tell a guy in which part of the lake you've found the bite to be best. I haven't been there yet this year so any info would be appreciated. I'm going in at Heck Creek and will just have a day and 1/2 to fish. A quickie if you will. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide... RJ in missoula

The lake level is down considerably from last year. The Crooked Creek ramp is high and dry. Nelson Creek is about out of the water and is basically not usable. At ##### Creek, the ramp that was in use last year is out of the water and an older, low-water, one-boat-wide ramp is being used.
When you get out on the lake, watch out for structure that's coming up. There are shallow bars and rockpiles out there that I didn't even know would become shallow spots. In short, the lake will eat up your lower unit this year if you're not careful. -- mark
Thanks for the info. Mr. Henckel, looking forward to the Gov. Cup again this year, and hopefully talking to you again. Take Care.

The water level is about 10 feet down from last year at this time. Just stay away from the points and you should be O.K. The Big Dry arm has some real tricky spots though, so watch out.

I fished again on July 5 and caught walleyes at 7,7,6, and a small one and northerns at21,16,14,14,12,12,8,7,7 lbs. On the 6th we caught walleyes at 10,8.5,7.5,7,4.5,3 and 2lbs. and 5 northerns at 6 and 7 lbs. On the 7th we had walleyes at 7.5,7,6,5,2,1,1,and a 5 lb sauger and a northern that went around 6 lbs. and on the 8th we caught only 2 walleyes a 10 and a 7 lber and a couple of northerns. We have caught all of the above on cranks in 15-25 feet and have caught all on the main lake. I would work main lake points in 10-20 feet and if you don't like cranks, there are some good catches coming on jigs rigs and crawler harnesses also. Good luck
