Scott Golden, founder of Walleye Central, and Zach Boudreau will be the guests on Fishing the Midwest television this weekend in most Midwest markets. A listing of times and stations can be found on the fishingthemidwest.com website. Nationally, Fishing the Midwest can be found on the Midwest Sports Channel, which is available on most satellite systems.
Scott and Zach joined me on the Mississippi River near Winona, MN one day in early October. We caught a variety of fish, mostly walleyes, but also sauger, smallmouth, largemouth, and white bass.
Zach took the biggest fish of the day, a 15-20 pound carp. In a recent interview, Zach commented that "Catching that carp was the thrill of my life so far. I still get the shivers when I recall the ecstasy I experience everytime I think about that golden beauty sliding into the net." He goes on to say, "I don't know how I will ever re-pay Scott Golden for assisting me in landing that fish-of-a-lifetime. If I am ever so fortunate to hook another carp as big as the one I caught last fall, I hope Scott is there to do the honors for me. Scott Golden is the only man on this earth that I would completely trust when it comes to helping me achieve my goal of capturing an even larger carp." The entire Boudreau interview will appear soon on the carpcentral.com website, another Golden/Boudreau production.
Watching Scott and Zach team up to conquer this magnificent carp was one of the highlights of my fishing career. I will forever remember the moment when Zach gently slid the conquered warrior back into her watery domain. As the noble carp disappeared, Zach, with a tear in his eye, uttered, "Go back, fair giant, and reproduce."
Catch the entire, heart-warming experience this week on Fishing the Midwest.
