View Full Version : Fishing 2 lines in MN
Just an FYI for MN fisherman. There is proposed bill (HF242) in the MN House that would allow fishing with 2 lines in MN year-round instead of just thru the ice. Contact your representative and let them know how you feel about it. Mine wasn't even aware of it. Be sure to reference bill HF242.

Thanks for the info Jay. I will let my reps. know that I support the bill. I am sure that it will get a lot of opposition. All of those hoping to run extra planner boards in Minnesota, this is our chance to be heard.
Go to leg.state.mn.us It has links to maps for finding your district and the addresses and emails of your representatives.
I hope it passes too.

Jay, Rep. Juhnke of Willmar Mn is the sponsor of changing the regulations from one to two lines for fishing in Minnesota. Rep. Juhnke is not a committee menber on any DNR committee. His sole proposal was to change the words "one" to "two". Does the fishing public really need this type of change in our regulations without input from the general public. Rep. Juhnke is a 3 term Rep. and is a Real Estate Appaiser. No other Rep. coauther his changes. Is he really trying to do good for the outdoors person or just off on his own???????????????

And why would this be bad? I have fished several states that allow 2 lines and it does not mean that someone will catch more than their limit. All it means is that the time spent on the water could be more enjoyable. I fish alone alot and would like to try a couple techniques at the same time. Mostly while cranking. I have a hard time chewing gum and walking at the same time so for me to jig with 2 rods, I think that I would be in trouble. I think a lot of people are that way. If you have more than 2 people in a boat, more than 4 lines out in a 20' or less boat gets difficult to keep from snagging other lines.
I don't see it as a big deal. I am for it.
I don't know anything about the author of the bill or his reasoning or intentions. But I do support it and see no reason why two lines shouldn't be legal. It's already allowed for ice fishing when the most pressure is put on panfish, so I don't believe there can be much concern about two lines hurting our fisheries. I don't believe two lines would have any impact from a resource management standpoint - not that many people will do it for one thing. And if the fish are biting, a limit isn't that hard to get for a good fisherman even with one line - but if the bite is off, two lines isn't going to make much difference. The state can regulate how many fish I can take, but I don't think they should regulate how I choose to fish.
