What is the best line to use when making Little Joe type spinners. What is the best leader length? I have tried Spiderwire and Fireline and have had some problems with the rig coming in all tangled up, sometimes around the the sinker when using bottom bouncers, other times just around itself. I like to use the superline for leaders when fishing in Canada to reduce the number of bite offs from the northerns. Any suggestions?

The best I've found is 14lb test Berkley XT in green or clear. Tough stuff and almost tangle free. Snell knots tie well and hold well. Any lighter line twist's quickly and will ball up the spinner and bait. My preference, it works well. Buy a small spool and give it a whirl.

I agree, but I use 17lb., I guess I catch bigger fish......
But I will still get bite offs in the St. Louis bay from either northerns or muskies.
Has anyone tried using fire line?

The strength of the line you use is not necessarily a good indicator of the size of the fish you catch. (I know, I have 50lb test on my muskie setup :) )

This might be a dumb question, but I am thinking of tying my own spinners this year, and was wondering how to tie a snell not. Thanks

Bagley's Super Silverthread is what I've settled on for spinners. 12lb has held anything I've hooked.

after trying most of the "tough" lines, i have settled on 12 lb supermono for tying spinner rigs. it doesn't seem to wear as quickly as most below the clevis.

I use Trilene 14lb XT. Fireline is a pain in the keester for these, to many tangles, hard to get out. I run Fireline down to the bottom bouncer though.
