I haven't used in on the Detroit river, but have used in on the Detroit Lakes (MN) if that counts. Works great there, both for jigging and for rigging.

I use "battle line" made in PA. It's great on D.River because bottom contains many rocks/concrete and the feel is incredible.

Guys,

I use fireline on the Detroit River also. I tie on about 10" of mono before the jig. Helps if you need to break off. The fireline will cut you or possibly ruin your guides/rod. Also there is a measure of stealth involved with having the mono in front of the fish instead of the fireline. I feel it sacrifices very little sensitivity - not much stretch over 10" of line. For you guys that tie direct - what do you do for breaking off snags?

I fished with a guide on the Detroit River and we used 6/2 green Fire Line. It worked really well. When you hit a snag just point the rod right at the jig and hold the reel spool, pops pretty easy or straightens the hook.

Thanks for the tip. I believe I'm using the 10/4 fireline, may downsize that.
How'd that go with the guide. Did he supply the equipment? What type of gear? Did he put you on fish in an out-of-the-way place or were you just in with the pack? Did he coach you on jigging technique - show you anything new? Catch any? Just curious how it went.
