A friend of mine bought one a year ago, really works once properly rigged. Casting distance is a little short, but you can bypass the AB feature if you want manual control and longer casts.
A funny true story-- the first trip with it was trolling for steelhead. He bragged all the way from Richland to Clarkston (3 hours) about his new reel and how it was impossible to backlash. So of course we started trolling while he rigged it up, and first cast: kaboom, HUGE "professional overrun". He hadn't watched the instructional video and had bypassed the AB. We flipped him #### while he struggled in vain with the birdnest and we continued trolling, him with his lure about 20 yards behind the boat. You can guess the rest: a steelhead took his lure and started jumping. I threw the boat in neutral and gave the line complete slack, then grabbed another rod, cut both lines, tied a double uni knot (try it with lots of adrenaline and November cold hands!), and he landed the steelhead. It turned out to be one of only two we landed all weekend-- both of course caught by him.

Not being a wizz with a baitcasting reel is why I picked one up. It works nice. Also they are buy 1 get 1 free (have to send them 10 bucks for shipping). So 2 $100 reels for $110 works for me. The offer is good until April 30th.

You can get the rebate at most authorized dealers or their website. If you go to the website (www.abu-garcia.com) look at the top right of the screen for the rebate. By the way the rebate also works for all of the cd4 and cd6 center drag spinning reels. You even get to pic the size reel you want. Its a great deal for a great reel.

This reel has no clicker which,I feel,is a must if you're going to troll with rod in rod holder.

I like mine. I use it for casting and agree with the shorter casting distance. But...the lack of snarls more than makes up for this, especially when slinging really big (muskie-size) baits. Also use it for trolling bottom bouncers. Since I always keep my rod in view, the lack of a clicker has not been a disadvantage. The ease of letting line out without thumbing is a nice feature.

I just returned a 6500 series anti-backlash reel. I had never used a baitcaster before and I found that it was fairly easy to cast without a mess. However, you must have the brake set properly, which must be adjusted for different weight lures. If adjusted, casting without backlash is pretty easy. Oh, and one more thing, you can turn the anti-backlash on and off. It works better if its in the "on" position. I actually found myself forgetting to turn it on and using my thumb. I found this to be easier than I thought.
The main reason I returned it is the casting distance with heavy lines was terrible. I plan to by Abu C3 or C4 to replace it.
