Want to know the size of the snap used that goes to the Hot-N-Tot or do you tie directly to. Using 18LB lead core and what test do you want to use from swivel to snap. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Spunkeye

LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-01 AT 12:44PM (CST)[p]Use either a rounded crosslock snap or the narrow cross lock snap. The narrow might give a better action do to the attaching eyelet of the tot does not slide, like a spoon split ring. Both are good, But tight action baits like rapallas work better with the narrow. Spoons work great on rounded snaps which allows the split ring to move across the snap Use a snap and leader. 1/2" length.
A no.10 or 12 snap swivel is fine along with 14 lb. mono between the swivel and the snap. Hope this helps LCL

I know what you mean now. I have been using 6LB mono with 18LB test. Also, I have noticed that when we put the Hot-n-Tot at the start that it starts to slide sideways instead of down. I am assuming then that the 14 LB mono helps you keep it straight and taught while trolling at 2.2 MPH? Everyone I have taken out so far trolls for around an hour and nothing and then they want to live bait fish. I want to catch a Walleye trolling your method!! And I am determined to do so!! We will try it this weekend. I have marked fish around stocker but to the east, but not a fish. I will have to say that when we finally get out there that it is 10:00 A.M. Thank you for the information.

Forgot to ask you, is it true that the closer the swivel is to the actual snap that the action is faster. Jeff at Haines marine told me this that the longer distance between the two produces a slower speed/action or vice versa. Thanks, Spucnkeye

LCL sory I did not get a chance the bring you some of the perch I told you I was going to bring down the Duck & Drake. My wife had other plans for me the rest of the weekend and fishing and bait store B.S. ing was not part of her plans so if I want to get out fishing next week I beter do what she wanted ( LOL ) !!! I will stop over the next time Iam up at camp. Tight Lines The Smalleye
No problem see you then. LCL
Stick with the 4 ft. leader between the swivels and you won't go wrong. LCL
Sorry I missed some of this... Do you tie the leadcore directly to a swivel to join the mono and then 4 ft. mono from the swivel to a snap? I've been tying the mono to the leadcore directly and it isn't working real great, but I was worried about the guides on the rod with a swivel.. I've also used much longer than 4', but I'm a newbie at this... Is that all you need? How much leadcore do you need for depths up to 40'. I opted for the heavier stuff (27lb.) and can only fit about 110 yards on it... It seems to get me down, but I'm not real certain of depths with deep divers on the end.... A plug that normally dives 8', etc... with leadcore... Thanks for any replies... I'm a newbie when it comes to leadcore...

I fished the RCL at Devils Lake last week and it was my first experience with lead core as both pros used it. One used a swivel with mono and the other used fireline tied directly to the lead core with a nail knot. I plan on using a nailless nail knot directly to the lead core, as I know the knot from flyfishing.

Hey LCL, Storm recomends a snap directly on hot n tot, you still use a swivel? Thanks, Perry.
