I'm heading up to the favorite walleye spot in a couple of weeks near Traverse City. I have always done extremely well in early to late summer using shiners and trolling weedbeds and although I have been fishing this lake for over 20 years, I have yet to try my hand either at this time in the season or using the "dusk till dawn" method.
This is an extremely good lake for all types of fish, let alone walleye, with plenty of structure, weedbeds, and drop-off's (depths max at 30'.)
I've been doing some research preparing for the trip and found the the old tried and true methods might not work as well later in the season. Does anyone have any advise? I am trying to guesstimate where I should start first and what to try...trolling with crankbaits, using shiners or leeches, hitting the drop-off's, gravel beds, or sandbars?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
