Don't know about that, but picked up a G-Loomis catalog today and it had a song in it called "The Ballad of Walleye Walt". Goes like this... He spoke of a spot he said would be real hot, der, where the wall-eye like to con-gre-gate. If he could find it again he'd reel dem in un-til he's out of bait. Ol' Wall-eye Walt, Ol' Wall-eye Walt, he's got da best boat and the biggest mo-tur. Ol' Wall-eye Walt, Ol' Wall-eye Walt, he's got some tricks yah sure, you bet-cha. Oh yah sure, hear the purr of his struggling mo-tur. But on and on he went, cause he was ##### bent to get to the spot before da oth-ers. Depth finder? Yah, sure. Tackle-box? Yah, sure. Big fat can of big fat o'leeches? Ol' Walt was-n't happy 'cause he left it sitting back on those mosquito infested beaches. So Walt took a look and put a brat on his hook, casting it out into the night. A walleye did appear but said, "What, no beer?" Dat der just ain't right. Now there was no way, Ol' Walt would give away, his ration of brew while fishin' So he took da brat back, pulled- the mus-tard from his pack, and dat walleye just sat der a wish-in'.

Walleye Song

(Lyrics by Richard A Lewis & Larry Hayes; Tune "Rawhide" by Dmitri Tiompkin)

Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin', Walleye

Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Lakes and streams are swollen
Fingers nearly frozen, Walleye

Through wind and rainy weather
We're in this boat together
Six packs, lures and leeches by our side

I've been drowning shiners
Searching with depth finders
Tryin' to get a big one on the line

CHORUS:
Bait 'em up, cast 'em out
Cast 'em out, bait 'em up
Bait 'em up, cast 'em out, Walleye
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up
Fry 'em up, gut 'em out
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up, Walleye

Keep movin', movin', movin'
Though they're disapprovin'
We'll find out where they're schooin', Walleye

My heart is contemplatin'
A big fish that's a-waitin'
Waitin' at the end of my line

Don't try to understand 'em
Just set the hook and land 'em
Soon we'll be listenin' to 'em fry

Bait 'em up, cast 'em out
Cast 'em out, bait 'em up
Bait 'em up, cast 'em out, Walleye
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up
Fry 'em up, gut 'em out
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up, Walleye
(lead guitar solo)
Bait 'em up, cast 'em out
Cast 'em out, bait 'em up
Bait 'em up, cast 'em out, Walleye
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up
Fry 'em up, gut 'em out
Gut 'em out, fry 'em up, Walleye

Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin'
Trollin', trollin' trollin', Walleye

This gem was recorded by the Hula Poppers (1986, Shadow Records 3355). the Hula Poppers were: Larry Hayes, Jan Stroup, Tom Bremer, James Klein, Rich Lewis, Danny Knowles, Brian Hayes.

I've got a copy that I downloaded from Napster. I could e-mail it to you if you can't find it elsewhere. The sound quality is decent, but not great. I downloaded two different versions, and kept the best one.

Let me know if you want me to send it.

The name was "The Hula Poppers - Walleye". I found it by doing a search on "Walleye". You will probably get a couple of other hits on "Walleye", but this is the only one I have downloaded.

So far five people have asked that I e-mail them a copy. Send me an e-mail if you would like to be included. I will probably send the song out sometime tomorrow.

The version that I have is not the greatest quality (but not terrible, either.) Some of the words are kind of hard to understand. I have been looking for a better version, but haven't found one yet. Maybe that is just how the original sounded.
