View Full Version : LOTW Rainy River /Baudette
Well the shiners are in the river, but the walleyes are just not there yet! Fished at the mouth by the green and red bouys, but only a few and they were saugars. We graphed a lot of something and at the landing the minnows would jump out of the water when "something" chased them, but only boated seven, and they were small. Maybe next weekend!!! Good luck FISHING...Kaz

KAZ, We are thinking about heading up to Baudette this weekend. Did you hear if they are still catching fish out on the big water yet? According to the Walleye Retreat and Clementson web sites they are saying the same thing you are. Hope it changes soon.
Hi Curt: I don't think I'll be able to get up for a few weeks, as I have some commitments here, but I am sure Glenn at RB can tell you when it's running. Good to hear form you and we will have to get together up there. Good luck FISHING...Kaz
Mick: I thought I answered you earlier today but the answer never got posted. I'll try again. I monitor channel 82 the guides channel and no one was getting much last weekend. As for deep water, Tom, the owner of Wigwam, said when the question about Garden or Stony, was asked, he said it would be a waste of time. Kevin, their head guide only got a few on the launch and I think he was at both the islands and the gap. Some others were getting a few outside the gap in 16 to 20 feet, but they were small and a lot of saugars. We got 12, small and 5 were saugars. If you are flexable I would wait another week as the shinners are in but the walleyes are just starting to show up. We marked a lot of fish but not much was bitting. My buddy is going up two weeks from today and he thinks he will hit the peak. I will have to wait awhile. As Curt R says be patient!!! Call one of the resorts and ask how the run is progressing. Good luck FISHING...Kaz

ok...here is the skinny i got today....a couple of buddies
of mine were fishing the river last thurs or friday...said they
didnt do very well...but they caught 2 huge walleyes, two sturgeon
over 4 feet long and a few smaller walleyes.
right now, i would fish the lake...morris point or lighthouse gaps
...look for fish or schools of baitfish, drop the anchor and
commence jiggin. if that didnt work i would drift, if that didnt
work i would pull some cranks at any depth i saw fish.
and if that didnt work, i would say "darn it, i should have fished
the river"

Curt: I was up there until Saturday night and fished those same days, but it was not good. Glad to hear someone got a few big ones. That sturgeon must of been a thrill. Even the plastic pullers weren't catching much. We came home after not doing so well. We did have one good walleye meal though. The rest of the time up there we ate over at RB. Gordy made a good drink so soften the dispair of poor fishing. And the pork chops were great too. Next time you drive down Burr Oak Rd. check to see if one of us is up. It's the beige place with the tower on the back of the porch. Thanks for the info, we may try again in a couple of weeks, but the drive from Plymouth gets long if we don't succeed. Good luck FISHING...Kaz
