View Full Version : Need Western Basin Report
Forum:
Planning a trip to the western basin this weekend. Need fish for the freezer. Planning on perch jerking and possibly chasing eyes if the reports are favorable. Are the perch still hot around the islands? How about eyes on the range between west sister and middle bass? Any info would be appreciated....:D

The perch fishing is still good off of Kelleys. Most people are fishing off the airport and NE of the island. The eyes have been slow. The lake is supposed to be really rollling for the next few days so fishing this weekend could be kinda tough if the wind doesn't settle down a little.

Phil,
North of West Sister was good for the perch this weekend. Also Niagara and Little Pikeral Reefs along with some decent reports near A Can. Haven't heard much on the eyes lately. It is really nasty up here (by Davis Besse) now and will probably be at least Friday before the lake is fishable.

Thanks to all that replied. Doesn't sound like the 'eyes have turned on yet. Any guesses as to the weather forecast?
I saw a report that says partly cloudy and wind out of the north/NE about 10 mph for Sat. What does that mean in terms of wave action? My guess is 2 to 4 footers (hopefully no more than that!) Bet even at 60+ degrees it's gonna be a bit brisk.
Looking forward to some perch action! If we do make it out I'll post results on Monday 10/01/01.

Im no pro but this is my experience- The lake has been AT LEAST 3-5ft waves all week and some 7-9's. The lake has to be a huge bowl of coffee and from what Freebyrd says the water has blown toward the eastern end of the lake which makes the island- reefs area expecially shallow.(good luck finding a ramp also) Back to the fishing- the water being muddy and the projected N-NE winds for Saturday, if it were me I would stay home and watch football. When I see weather like its been this week and NE winds forecast I dont bother because the fishing will be difficult. I think most will agree.
