Despite what I said I was gonna pursue this weekend I did hit Pueblo Sunday with my son. I originally said I was gonna go after wood ducks but decided to chase walleye instead. Got on the water about 7am. Set out planner boards with the new Jointed Shad raps and one leadcore line. About 7:30 the shallow board flag disapears and the board drops back. I let my 7 year old son reel in a 23 incher. From that point on, if I make a motion towards the rods he gently reminds me that he is supposed to reel in all fish. So.... I guided and let him bring in 10 more walleye and a few smallmouth bass. Only one legal fish but he was excited all day as that is his largest walleye ever. Water temp is in the high 60's. All eyes came shallow (relatively speaking) as no fish were caught on the leadcore dragging shad immitations through and above the balls of shad.

Where abouts were you fishing? How deep? Also, was there any kind of restricted area by the dam?

I never really got close enough to the dam to see if it was marked off so I cannot answer that one.

All fish were caught either along ShipRock or directly south of ShipRock along the south shoreline. Depth - not real sure as the shallow planner boards were picking up the fish everytime and the depth below the board is less than where the boat was positioned. The Shad Raps were down about 12 feet and I was trying to keep the planner board in about 15-18 feet of water. Every now and then the flag would slam down as the crank got snagged on a rock but in every case, the crank came free. So I would bet that the lure was banging the bottom occasionally. It seems that the fish liked the lure to bang on the bottom as that is when I got most bites. I'm thinking that maybe next time varying the lures (and depth they run at) on that shallow board will help find the more agressive fish and hopefully the bigger ones.

Where did you get your jointed shad raps?

Gaylans in Flatirons has them, so does the Sportsmen’s Warehouse. Better fish with them now. They are new and the fish have not associated them with pain, fishermen and Budweiser yet. This time next year you won't be able to catch a fish with that lure as the fish will be "educated".

In fact, I'm headed out Friday night to troll the mall... ooppps the dam.

I was out with the better half on Sunday afternoon till 7pm.Caught many smallmouth including a 3.5 Terri released. About 6 pm I started casting the dam and caught a 22.5 walleye. The riprap is open to fishing ,but the main cement part is restricted.

Forgive the stupidity of what I am about to ask but alas I am lazy and don't like driving more then necessary. You're talking about stores in the Denver area right? Or the Springs or Pueblo?

Galyons is at the Flatiron Crossing Mall off of hwy 36 in Broomfield. Sportsman's Wharehouse is by the factory outlet stores in Loveland, (not very far from Boyd Lake).

I think they were about $5.50 at Sportmens Warehouse, not sure about the cost at Gaylans.
