In Cabelas $30 difference with one more ball bearing in the Stradic. Do yourself a treat and get the Stradic, but then again I like to spend other peoples money.

I own all shimano reels--i own three stradics one symetre and one brand spanking new sustain. I myself like the stradic it gives you the most performance for your buck and you dont need to baby it. To me it is well worth the extra money. Not that the symetre isnt a good reel it just doesnt compare to the stradic in my opp. as the price diff. suggests.

I own quite a few of both and would have to say go with the stratic. To compare them when they are both brand new is'nt fair because they seem close, but by the end of one season the differance becomes obvious.

I've used Shimano reels exclusively for years now. I swore by them, until last year. My partner and I each bought two brand new Stradic 1000's and 3 of the 4 seized up tight on us. Maybe they dont make them like they used to. They've allways been a low maintainance reel. We cast our arms off in the spring. If you don't, they're an exellent reel.

My son and I both have Symetre's which have "dead spots" while retrieving. We are going to try the Stradics this year.

Buy both of them and decide for yourself.

I love my stradics. They are fished hard and I have never had a problem. Great equipment.

Compare similar priced Diawa's before you spend. Smoother drag. Larger diameter spools will cast further and produce less line memory. I own both and lean towards the Diawa now.

I used a brand new symetre 2000FH this past season. It worked really nice. My only complaint was that if it was left out in wet conditions for too long, it would seize and wouldn't turn until the thing dried out. I don't think that the grease job that they get from the factory is very good, so I'm going to regrease it, and hope that it works better.

I have 4 Symmetre reels and love them. The Stradic is a great reel too. After about 4 years, I noticed "dead spots" on my reels too. I took them to an old timer who advertises reel repair. He had the reels in and cleaned all the grease out, cleaned them up, regreased and they are like new again. Try it, and you may be surprised! Good Luck!

Not to create contraversy and I am not sponsord by Diawa, but Diawa in my opinion makes the best reels out there. Diawa SS series have dropped in price to about $85. Great deal!

Hi Dave,

I am another guy in Daiwa's corner. You owe it to yourself to compare. The Emblem series is fantastic. I have both the Z and X series. After years of use they are still work like new. The SS is a great reel for the money. But if you are looking at the more expensive reels you won't be dissapointed with the Emblem series. Good Luck. TM

Thanks for the info - Shimano replaced them once, REW gave me some tips on how to regrease them as well. I will still give the Stradics a try though - good excuse to get one.

It is frustrating to see these responses. Pretty soon someone will ask how to fix a specific motor, and you'll get a reply like "Well, not to start a debate, but what you really want to learn how to repair is blah, blah, blah,." Just answer the freakin' question. If you want to say how great Daiwa is, then start another post!!

Sorry guy's. You are absolutely correct. I guess that the replies given by those of us who suggested DaveQ check out the Daiwa's is totally of base here. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. But it kind of seems if it were me spending that kind of money on a fishing reel I would like to know which others might be highly thought of. I am not trying to start some kind of battle of the reel. As you will note my post did not have any sort of bashing toward's Shimmano. I simply felt a need to let Dave know that the Daiwa's are indeed a comparable reel that have worked well for me. If you considered my post frustrating then maybe you have some personal issue's to deal with. I did not intend to make anyone's day frustrating. Now back to my tax's. Now that is frustrating.

"Exactly", who died and made you God? This is a public forum that thrives on the balanced distibution of information. His question was answered by the others and TM merely added his 2 cents about a good reel alternative in the face of some issues that were posted above. How dare you smack a poster like that.

Jeez! Cabin fever got you against the wall or what?

It sounds like the guy who posted the question had it narrowed down to two reels, Daiwa was not one of them. I suppose your sponsored by Daiwa and want to peddle them. Very specific questions require specific answers. If he asked an ambiguous question like "what is the best reel for a hundred bucks" then by all means tell us about Daiwa.

AquaMan,
How can a guy concentrate on a tax return with this going on. Looks like I opened the perverbial can of worms. You hit it right on the head. I read this post some time ago and choose not to reply. The post asked for a comparison between the stadic and symetre. As the post developed it became more complex of an issue. There were posts describing problems with one or the other and I believe references were made to Daiwa before I brought them up. I was simply offering my opion of $200 spinning reels. If I offended anyone, especially Dave, the original poster, I apologize.
Allan,
I once had Daiwa as a sponsor for my guiding business. I was dropped by them due to budget restraints. That however, does not lower my appreciation of their spinning reels. So no, I am not sponsored by them nor do I sell them or profit in any way by how many fishing reels they sell. So please lets just get back to Dave's original question. What do ya think? Is the stradic worth the extra money? I would have to go along with fishin_fool and say yes. (Yes I have used both)

No need to explain. I saw your timing and it was after issues regarding the Shimanos arrose. A very timely and informative post, TM.

I just thought that the responce to your post was very inapropriate and rude.

Everyone relax and get your taxes done so you can get a new rod, relax and fish. WooHoo!
