I bought one when they first came out and use it as a flasher on my boat. I'd like to use it ice fishing but I can't find the puck type transducer for this unit - this one has the prong type connection. Zercom said they don't make this type of transducer any more but I thought someone on the board may know where I could find one. Thanks in advance!

Bought a puck style for my bow mount trolling motor from Reeds a little less than a year ago. There isn't much that they don't have.

Are you talking about the type that is mounted to a rod. The transducer has a bubble on it so that you know the transducer is level?(old style) Or the type that you just put down the hole and it levels out by itself.(new style, like on the lcf-40)

fishtrap3, where could I get the new style that you mentioned? I've gone to Zercom's web site and can't find an accesories page. I sent them a e-mail inquiring about it but haven't gotten back to me yet. Also, would the new style plug into the classic? thanks, Herb
Try Skipper. www.skipper-marine.com If it exists, they'll have it or get it. Go to their web site and get their 800 nember.

I boaght mine 5 years ago for ice fishing before they had the suspended tranducers. It had the style that attached to a stick and arm to the base of the unit. I went on e-Bay and bought the suspended transducer last fall. The one that came with the unit originally is now mounted "thru-hull" on the boat.
Check with some of the "surplus" sporting goods stores. Zercom did change the conection, but they had lots of these suspend style transducers made and I am sure you can find one. I will check sources at Gander Mountian here in MN.

aquaman, Mine has the puck ducer with the bubble level and it's connected to an adjustable stick. Sounds like it's the one you had. I just have a lot of trouble getting it to sit right. I'll adjust it but when I tighten the wingnut and let go of it it;s off center again. So if you happen to locate one that is self leveling and will fit my connection, send me an e-mail at
jkb@louisacomm.net
Another question while I'm at it; can you cut the ducer cable to shorten it up and put the old plug back on? Might be a dumb question but I've always wondered. Thanks Herb

The one you have was the standard puck that came with the "ice" kit. Several years ago they offered a weighted, self leveling one that hung from a centering clip and a yellow nylon cable shield.
Since the cable is a coax style, you should be able to shorten it, but unless you have a good connection at the splice, I am affraid you will loose some of that excellent target separation that makes those flashers so good.
My advise would be to hold off until you locate the other style. Call Zercom and beg someone to check in the boxes way back in the warehouse for that style. I would put money on them having one somewhere. You just have to get with the right person.
I'll keep you posted if I locate one.

I called Zercom last year about getting the self leveling iceducer. I was told by the lady on the phone that they didn't have them in stock, but they could still make them. No I didn't have one made(should have but didn't) I don't know if they will still make one. You might want to give them a call. If I am not mistaken she told me $55.00 plus shipping. Hope this helps a little!!

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
Don't cut the cable. Ever. If you're buying a transducer, make sure its set up for your specific type of unit. Frequecies are different, impedence, power, etc. If you can wait, call skipper, get their catalog and read the article about transducers. However, if you're very handy and can figure out how to tune and calibrate a transducer, knock your socks off. I don't know soon you have to have this done, but if you can spare a few days until the catalog gets there, you'll agree its worth the wait. Do it right, do it once.

Allen, I've got a vex and love it. Bob, I can wait. I got the zercom classic in a trade and I just want to make it more user friendly. Herb
I bought one a month ago at Capra's in Blain, MN.

I had the same bubble transducer as you do. I had modified mine to work like a self leveling one. I first removed the bubble. I made a steel cone that sits on top of the transducer. I used steel only for weight. I drilled a hole though the middle and then cut completely through vertically so I had two pieces. Then I clamped it around the cable with plastic tie straps. The key of this whole idea is to pull from the top center and it centers itself. This has worked so well I've made several for my friends. Hope this helps. This saved me sixty bucks on a new transducer.

Eyellaw,
Could you give me the dimensions and weight of the steel cone that you make?
Thanks, Herb

I have what you are looking for. I had a classic and bought a lcf-40 and guess what, the connections are different. So I have the transducer you need and the power cord. I am in Mn. 507-662-5949 or lhohenst1@amfam.com

Beetle I'm sorry I took so long getting back to you. I had some computer trouble. I'll do my best to describe the dimentions to you. The major diameter is 1 11/16". This just fits in the ring on your transducer. The total length is 2 1/2". I put a taper on one end 1 3/8" long and put it at approximately a 30 degree angle. Then I drilled a 9/32 hole through the middle and sawed it in two pieces. I dont know the exact weight but I would guess 3 to 4 ounces. This sounds like a lot of work but if you have a friend in a machine shop it only take a few minutes. I hope I explained it well enough.
