I just returned this afternoon from ice fishing at Wheelers Point. The ice is THIN!!! Saturday from 3:00 to dark two of us had to walk out from Wigwam about a mile. The main channel is still open and the currant is fast. There was 6" on Sat eveing, clear good ice, but by Sunday it was down to about 4 1/2 to 5 inches. Rain and warm weather Saturday night had caused the ice to shrink. It was to risky to go out in the dark Sunday AM. Lots of water on top in the morning but was running down the holes and by Sunday eveing after the rain stopped the ice looked good but was defiantly thinner. Four wheelers were going out to the lake on the other side of Pine Island. Fishing was good if you could get out there as several limits were coming in. The ice is spooky as you can see the bubbles fly by under you. We went out twice and that was enough. We were fishing within 25' for open water, some were on the edge as close as 5'. We had cleats, ice spikes, and tied a rope between up just in case. It's not for the faint of heart. Forcast does not look good for more building of ice so be sure to call ahead. If you must go, BE CAREFUL!!!....Kaz
