What would you consider to be the best tackle organizer, and why? I have what is probably a typical (for this board anyway!) amount of jigs, Raps, and other assorted toys.

I just got my #966 B & B Bait box in the mail the other day and it's awesome. I've got 120 raps, shad raps, and Tail Dancers in it.

That is a tough question to give a general answer to, but I will tell you what I do.

Bigger Cranks: B&B 987 (7" deep, even holds 18 Rapalas)
Smaller Cranks: B&B ??? (5" deep model)

Other stuff: I have a Cabellas soft sider bag (magnum, I believe). I keep a divider-less box in the outside pocket that holds: Digital Scale, Disposable camera, 3-4 pony spools of line for emergency leaders or rigs, spare clipper/eye buster. I primarily use the Plano 3701(?) boxes that are 1.25" tall and the Plano big, deep 3700 series boxes. I have one deep box that is aimed at bass guys and is setup for holding a lot of plastics and use that for tails and (I admit it ;-) ) some bass worms. I use another of the deep boxes for "trolling hardware" including: dipsiess, dodger/fly, spoons, snap weights, planer board lights, tattle tail springs and misc. Another deep box holds pike/musky cranks, spinners, etc. I use the smaller boxes (3701)for jigs and live bait rigging components. I have one of the smaller boxes for perch/panfish. I have one of the standard size 3700 series boxes (2"). In this box, I keep bottom bouncers and I have my 2 "primary" rolls of spinner harnesses. I wrap the harnesses on pipe insulation that is cut to the length of the box. I have about 6-8 rolls and I taylor the ones in the box to the type fishing that I am doing that day/trip.

I always mix and match my boxes before I leave. Sorry this got long, but I have just done my winter clean-up and reorganization. I hope that I made some sense. Good Luck!

I just saw one heck of a tackle storage system. It is a soft sided organizer made by Shimano. The main part of the system holds 5 large (24 compartment) box's. The top has places to hold extra line, spools, reels, etc. There are side pannels that hold longer pliers and scissors. The B&B box's mentioned above are nice too. Great for keeping a lot of cranks seperated. Hope it helps. TM.

I have two of the shimano soft sided bags. They work well. The main compartment holds eight 3700 boxes, more if you use the 3701, which I use for jigs and rigging. The ends each hold one 3600 box and two small pockets in front each hold a plano soft worm bag full of plastics. The large back pocket holds a j&b bouncer tamer a scale, and some other goodies. Nice bag.

As my tackle collection grew, organizing it was getting to be a pain. I bought several Plano boxes, but to carry them around, the soft sided tackle bags, didn't seem to impress me. Tight fit for the Plano boxes and they can get pretty pricey. I noticed the fancy gym/sport athletic bags, lots of side pockets, lots of interior room and less expensive. May sound dumb, but go to a Wal-Mart, find a bag, and then take it to the fishing gear section and try the Plano's in it plus any other items.

Cheers.
