I'm planning a trip up to Red Lake on the weekend of Feb. 10th and was wondering where most people stay when they fish Red Lake in the Winter. I've heard there is a place called Hodek's right on the lake, but its hard to get a room there. If I could get some names of places to stay I would appreciate it. How has the fishing been up there lately and what time do they usually bite? Any other information would really help since I've never been there before. Thanks. Mille Lacs Guy

Accomodations are hard to come by near Red due to the fact that there aren't many rooms available. We stay in Baudette at the Americ Inn. It's a 37 mile ride to Hudecs' in the AM. The Red bite is usually better after noon and into the early night hours. Bring glow in the dark jigs. Get extra minnows because the little perch can get to be bait robbers. If you go on the weekend you will have lots of company.... Fishing has been pretty good, although its not one after another like it has been the last two years. Heavy pressure might be having an effect.

you can call hudecs resort.....218-647-8291...good luck on
lodging it is pretty busy and there is not much up there
right now....call rogers campground (i dont have the number)
they are located just south of washkish (thats the town)..
information is also available from the westwind lodge (nice
bar and restaurant)....there are a few sleeper houses
around you may luck into one of them...
crappies bite right at dark.....(6pm ish) and go off and
on throughout the night....this is NOT A DAYTIME bite....
save your time and energy....during the day you will catch
micro perch, an occasional huge northern, tullibee and
pout........but zero crappies......
in march the daytime bite may return....good luck to you
it is set up real nice...impossible to not fish the right
spot...follow the road...find the village...get on the
edge away from the commotion and wait till dark
i am going friday night and saturday night....i will let you
know....
oh yeah...during the week is better...not so busy...but when
they go, they will go regardless of the number of people
on the ice...
