Anybody been on Gull Lake near Brainerd? If so how was the bite and how thick is the ice?
Thanks

Most everyone I have talked to says the fish are biting, but are small. The ice is 10" where I fished in Hole-in-the-day last night. I think it varies a great deal though.

The Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza?
There is only one area your allowed to fish. It's held on the north east corner of the lake, in Hole in the day bay. The depths vary from 6-60 feet. the six foot area is closer to shore and 60 feet on the outer rim. The larger fish that have been caught in recent years have been Eyes but, lots of Tullibee have won prizes as well. A few Rock Bass and Perch have won nice prizes also. I have gone just about every year and have had a great time each year. Lots of people, lots of beer and alot of noise = Lots of fun! ;-) The "lots of noise" hint, should tell ya where the fish are! Good luck and may the fish be with you! EE

Yeah sounds great, I'll be on the lookout for ya!
As far your depth question; YES, the deeper the better!
If the contest is held this year, (because of the poor ice) It sounds like it will be on North Long. If this is the case, deep is not really an option. The entire Hwy 371 bay averages about; 10 feet. There are a few 20 foot holes but, overall, pretty shallow!
This Time of year on North Long, this particular bay will produce a few Pike, Crappies, Bluegills, & Perch. However, with all the racket out there, it might not produce anything at all?
Good luck! and may the fish be with you! EE

And also the contest drills all the holes , your not aloud to drill them where you want. Just within the area they designate,no enclosures you will be searched for hidden fish etc etc. Bring your ice spud its all your aloud to use to reopen the holes the day of the contest no augers. They drill them the night before. Craig
