Do underwater camera systems like Aqua Vu work on Lake Erie or isn't it usually clear enough?

I'm curious as to what parts of Erie you used your camera. Reason being is off Vermilion/Lorain last year in the fall we marked tons of fish but couldn't turn them like everybody else. I was wondering what fish were down there. I was saying now is a good time for a camera. I was guessing walleye and sheephead but couldn't get either one bite at times.
Good Luck!!

Tom I didn't know you had Aqua View system. Does it really work good? Do you use it on the river? Pymatuning? Does it spook the fish? Do you normally use it with light on or off? How far away can you see fish? Do they have to be very close or you can see them 6 ft away for example. Is it powered by one of your boat batteries or it has its own battery system? How big is the display in the boat? Is the display easy to view in the sun? I have been thinking about getting one of these. Chris

Dale,

It took about fifteen minutes last year for me to find out. As I watched a big female swim circles around my Jiggin' Rap. She sniffed it, barely touched the tails of the minnows on the bottom treble, and proceded to swim around it. I tried everything in my arsenal (ripping, jiggling, bouncing it on the bottom, sitting still, raising it, etc.) for five minutes to no avail. I then felt a tap on my other rod. I turned the camera, jiggled my Pimple, and had a little two pounder on the ice in no time. I was surprised about how featureless the bottom was and how much silt is stirred up when I bang a lure off the bottom. Now all we need is some ice.

I don't know how it would work on Lake Erie but mine worked great on Lake of the Woods and other places not as clear as Erie. And best of all, it keeps my daughters busy so I can stay on the water longer with out complaints. Have fun! ADO

chris, i use it everywhere how far you can see depends on water clarity, at the dam most times you can see 7 to 10 ft, it has the infa red lights and it is powered by its own 12 volt batt. i love it its just like watching a 4 inch black/white t.v. it dosn,t spook fish, i was on pymy one day this spring and was useing it and when i would bump a fish with it the fish would move about 2 ft and stop i,d bump it again and it would move 2 ft and stop, you can tell the difference between fish with it like i said its like watching a small t.v. i,ve watched myself on more than one occasion drop a jig and minnow bounce it in front of a walleye and watch the fish nail the bait what a blast i have also put it down to watch 100s of sauger swimming around but couldn,t get one to hit, if i didn,t have the camera down you would swear there wasn,t a fish around but they were they just wern,t hitting anything, talk to ya later.

I talked to one of the guys at Eds Bait shop on Devils Lake and they rent out both aqua-vu and ovs he told me that they sent back a lot of the aqua-vu's.He recommended the ovs.Just a thought, these guys know thier equipment. The problem was with the cable connection shorting out at the camera.Rentals take alot of abuse so this is a good testing ground.
