I've been enjoying the chat about sonar units and have been a little surprised that no one has mentioned the Zercom Liquid Paper Graph 2000. From the spec sheet on it, it looks like a great unit, yes, a little pricey, but seems to have many features that serious fishermen might want. Any thoughts out there? Waitin' for spring!
No doubt it's one of the very best. I ran one on the Triton & brother Rich uses one on his charter boat. Good luck.

I like mine, after a friend saw it work he got one too. Can be a bit of a pain to keep bottom at WOT in an aluminum boat(may get rid of my sting ray hydrofoil), humminbird style transducer, the 2 inch separation is for real, spotted my 5/16 jig in 20ft of water, from my understanding the Z160 is about the same unit with less screen resolution and a few less knobs, may be worth checking out

We were given one of these units to use by one of our sponsors; and I'm pleased to tell you they didn't get it back. This unit is incredible. It out performed our Eagle and the Lowrance LMS 350A. If you see fish on the Zercom, they're there. We fished areas with alot of submerged timber, and you could pick out fish through the branches. I also was able to track my jig up and down the screen. The only draw back we found, was that we out-run the sonar around 45MPH. This may be due to the fact that we're shooting through the hull with the transducer.( because it was initially supposed to be a loaner, we didn't want to drill any new holes for something we were giving back after the season.) Awesome unit, well worth the money!
I've fished with one for a year now off my bowmount and can't say enough good things about it. I run a 350A on the dash which I also love but I have to say that I prefer the Zercom. It gives a great picture of the bottom as well as bottom huggin walleye. I particularly like how easy the control are to work . . . particularly when the boat is rocking and rolling. Of course now that the new Lowrance X-15 and x-16's are out . . . . . . hmmmm.

If your interested in the x-15 and are considering selling your zercom lpg2000, email me your asking price, would be seriously interested if your price is reasonable

thats funny all those comments about the lms350. comparisons to the next gen. zercom with last gen. lowrance! only one comment on the lcx-15. i have had zercom products and personally would prefer lowrance over zercom.i have a lcf-40 flasher by zercom, and it's lazy at best and not worth repairing. not to mention all the interference other units impose on this rig, big dissapointment! i just bought the new lcx-15 and hope it proves to be the new #1!
Check back on this subject. I posed the same questions previously but got quite different responses. Check the recent archives. The first was you can go high speed with super feedback but at work as a fish locator was very weak at bottom separation. This information was second hand but from a very reliable source.
The second was a mix on ease of use. The responses were from idiot proof to trying to turn knobs on fly were horrendous.
On the future side, what is Cobra gonna do wit Eagle/Lowrance?
I am gonna walk from my 1983 MicroTrack into the future with a 2000 I believe (I have had Zircom Classsic on ice and for flyin's
for a long time and sure like product) .
I spent today on Mille Lacs with a borrowed unit of another manufacturer and it reinforces my decision to go with the big Z

I cannot get the spelling right zErcom not zIrcom. Phonetics sometimes just do not work.

Jeff.... I have used the lpg 2000 for a year on Sakakawea & tobin, and it is the best sonar I have used for showing what is "really" down there. It shows true arches & excellent bottom readouts. The only problems I have encountered, along with others, is the high speed readings. I have since improved mine up to abut 40mph, after that I sometimes will lose depth recording, mainly in rougher water. I have another high speed depth sounder on my boat to solve that problem. You will be pleased with the unit. Zercom is working on another transducer, I was told.
If you have any more questions, feel free to email me.
Take care,
Brad

i couldnt find the recent archives you spoke of. i think everybody tends to stay with what works for them, and i have found lowrance to be a worker!

Thanks Brad and all the rest for your insights on these sonar units. I currently have a Zercom flasher on my bow mount by virtue of the fact that it came built into my Crestliner Sportfish. I've been running with an Eagle Strata 128 but want to upgrade and think the 2000 might be my choice. I can always use a few more Cabela's points!
If buying from cabelas is not a must, check out consumermarine.com , and dbmarine.com. You'll have to e-mail or call them on their 800 numbers for a price. They'll probably come in around 475$ vs. cabelas 509$ Good luck with it!

I have the z160 model. Bought it late summer last year, so haven't had that much time on it. Went to buy the x-75 and they were out. Seen this one on the rack and liked the display. Bought the unit for less than $300 with speed and temp. I dare anyone to find a better unit for under $300. AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

What are you inferring? It looks like it took a product from Zercom before Lowrance got of its heels and manufactured a new product to compete.

I myself have used Lowrance and Garmin products. It is a fact that Garmin did have a problem with alot of their units due to faulty transducers (Not made by them). I am at this time running Garmin products and love the product except one thing....the refresh rate is very slow. If I drive into a shallow weedline while making a trolling pass...it seems to take 20-30 seconds to update after loseing the bottom....this can be a major problem if you drive onto a rock pile in shallow water and lose your signal. Otherwise..the high speed performance is good and it does mark fish well along with your bait if vertical jigging! I have NOT used the 2000 yet so I cannot comment on its effectiveness..... Just my experience after 120+ days on the water last year! Wiz

The Garmin's screen scroll is far inferior to the Zercom. I've had both in the same boat at once. Garmins fast setting is about the same as 3 on the Zercom(scale of 1-8)
