I also have a cabin near Devil's Lake, but have never fished it.
Any advice on where to start? I ice fish a lot in MN, but usually just snowmobile when I'm up in that area. Is it an easy lake to fish, and what species of fish have good populations in the lake? I saw there are special reg's on the walleyes, is this lake speared/netted by the Native American's?
Thanks in advance for any helpful tips.

I don't know what you like to fish fo but there are some monster sunnies and ok size crappies.[I mostly fish for them] but when the wally's want to bite I have to feed 'em ha ha..
As far as I know the native's don't spear or net on that lake but I could'nt give you good info on that as I only fish the lake in the winter time. for a good starting place for the wally's and crappies if you go on the north end of the lake by the public beach and go out about 300-350 yards strait south there's a drop off from about 8ft to about 21ft and a big rock pile. I did the best in the morning from 6am.-9am. good luck!!!

I do fish Yellow Lake in the winter on occassion, although I have much better luck in the spring(open water). I have found that the walleyes in Yellow Lake stay shallow all winter, and I seem to do better on tips-ups(rather than jigging). And if all else fails, I sled to Hole in the Wall, and donate to the local charities!

I've fished yellow quite a bit in early spring caught a few but nothing to write home about . I do way better in the winter. summer time [open water] is left open for the big muskies on lake 26.I don't know what you all fish for or are walleye's it?? If walleye's are it you have to try fish'in under the bridge just north of danbury [3 blocks] going over the yellow river. last spring we hooked into some monsters 5-9lb range got two that were over 11lbs . well gotta go hope you do well with the info I gave you let me know how their biten. crappie wonder boy

Crappie Wonder Boy-
Thanks for the advice. How deep is it under the bridge n. of Danbury, and what bait/presentations have you used? Is that normally good just around the opener? And what depths are you fishing Yellow thru the ice for your walleyes? As I mentioned earlier, I always seem to do better in the shallows under ice (under 12') on Yellow. I fish crappies in that area on Big Wood Lake(near Grantsburg), great size, and when you find the schools, fast and furious. We're thinking about going next weekend, so thanks for all the advice.

under the bridge is only about 4ft. you can actually see the walleye's!!!! I was just useing a silver and red swedish pimple with a red blade and tipped with just the minnow head. Just basicly jig it in front of the one you want to catch!! .sound to good to be true?
belive it when their there and they hit it's absolutly crazy!!
As far as fishin yellow i caught the walleye in 14ft like i said nothing to write home about ,but fun to catch. good luck this weekend let me know how you do. see ya!

Wow, that sounds like a great time! What time of spring do the walleyes show up? Is it pre-opener, or after the May opener? I live in Hudson, WI. Danbury is about two hrs. north of me. My brother and I go Four-Wheeling up there. I'll be sure to bring my Rod!
Thanks.

They show up just after ice out and you con usually catch them all summer long unless it's super hot out.
