I know this isn't about fishing but I just need to let the country know that some people are real A-holes. I hunt a private piece of land and have permission, last year someone stole my deer stand, This year I got the thickest chain and lock for it,I went out today to take it down and not only did he take my stand he cut the tree down..This guy is a real A-hole, I do not know who you are but God does and someday you'll be sorry.

I don't have any specific suggestions, but surely someone with more imagination than I can come up with the perfect setup to break this varmint from suckin' eggs! I'm not suggesting personal injury, but this individual is blatantly rattling Hawgboy's cage.

I, too, hunt private land (bounded on one side by public land) and am very cautious about leaving anything valuable hanging from a tree (although the law says that I should be able to).

While we're at it, here's an ethical dilemma for all to ponder: several years back, while hunting turkeys on public ground in the spring, I discovered a commercially-made ladder stand attached to a tree -- and the tree had blown down! What do you all think about salvage rights in such a situation (remember, this occurred in May)?

Ethically, you should contact you local DNR and they will remove it. Technically, since it is on pulic land, you have every right to use the stand. Morally, you should leave it there.

That said....If it were me, I think would leave the stand there for a while longer and if it is still there next trip, I would be walking out with a new stand. Think about it, if you find a lure on the beach, do you leave it or take it home? I know the items are of vastly different value, but the fact remains, if left on public land, it becomes public property...theoretically!

If you find out who the ####### is, the landowner can have him charged with criminal trespass ($500 fine in Wis) and the ####### can also be forced to pay for the tree. Hope you catch him!

do you know anyone with one of those trail cameras, that you could hide watching your stand and set up a decoy stand.

Very sad the way the world is going. I lost a snowmachine to theft last year. I broke down at dusk so we went back the following morning to pick it up and someone had stolen it. They had dragged it to shore and loaded it up. The sad part was we were 20km up the lake. The ******* had to have worked for hours bringing it out. It was a very sad thing for me as I take great pride in my equipment. The Police phoned me this summer that they had found the frame. Everything else was gone. I know how you feel. It is very personnel.

If you are brave, put a motion detecting camera up.... But be careful, if it isn't hidden good enough, it could go home with him too :) A good friend of mine had one taken a couple of years ago, I'm still convinced the guy was just walking through the woods, heard a click, and wondered what it was??? Looked around a little, and went home with a camera...

It is sad that people can't be trusted, I could go on and on how you could get back at him.My attorney loves my macho attitude, all four of his kids are going to Ivy league schools on my money.Call the cops (which I hate to do)just so there is a record of it.Bigger chain, bigger lock razor blades super glue to the sides of the tree, there I go again anyways the little voices in my head are telling me to clean all of my guns again !
