Hey Glyde Ryder, I'll see you there. The rain we've had should help the bite considerably--get the REAL hawgs going! Talked to a guy on BS a coupla weeks ago who swore up and down he lost a 42-incher last year. While that's likely a stretch, if it could happen anywhere, Bull Shoals is the place!

MoEyze, You do know that some of those hillbillies do exagerate just a little dont you? I wonder what the measurements were on that 1988 21 # record fish. Is there a picture? Doesnt Bass Pro have a replica there at Springfield? It was caught about a 100 Yds west of Swan Creek. Guy was throwing a roadrunner with a Zebco 33 during the white bass run. Used to be a little marina there. Understand he ate it.

Anyone know of a good Guide? I'll be in the area the week of April 13-20 and would love to see the fishery. Is this a constant bite or a spring run bite only?

Hey Glyde Ryder,
Good to hear you survived the event. Question on the spoons - hero or zero???!!!
I'm envious of those surrounded by soft water this time of year - I just can't seem to figure out how to use the OffShores on ice....good luck with the rest of your events.

GR, there's a replica mount of the discredited old world record (Mabry Harper's 25-lb. 40" fish from 1960) at the BPS Fish & Wildlife Museum. Have you ever seen one of those Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs? Just transfigure the snout a bit, add some glow-eyes and exchange the legs for some white-tipped fins, and you're there. Couldn't imagine trying to haul one of those sows up to the boat--but I'd sure like to try! (Maybe next week...)
That's the beauty of it down here. I miss almost everything about Wisconsin (except cheese!), but I was glad to give the ice gear away. Being in the boat all winter and knowing that the next fish just might be THE ONE--now that's cool! (The discount doesn't hurt either.)

Sunshine, spawning generally peaks around March 10 most years, but if things keep going the way they are this winter things may get pushed back a bit. The few fish that came in last Sat. were pretty pale. Water temp has been hovering around 41 degrees in the upper lake (where we do all our fishing) for quite some time. Last year it never got below 48. I think the fish are in shock.
Everybody needs an excuse when they blank out like I did last weekend...
It ain't just a spring run thing, even here in the upper lake above the state line. But the water heats up pretty quickly as you can imagine, and by May you're into summer patterns--bouncers and crawlers over the flats on the inside channel bends. In April you'd be fishing for post-spawn/pre-summer binge feeders. And the guy to talk to is Buster Loving (I'm sure that's his given name, this being the Ozarks and all). He's a Rogue-throwing, minnow-dipping bass-and-walleye guide on both Table Rock and Bull Shoals, and he just absolutely smoked everyone in the MWAA tourney this past weekend. His email address is bustersguideservice@inter-linc.net (sorry, can't seem to make a link).

Steve's is a great biweekly resource, and is archived back to '96. Feel free to contact me (Mike Alley), or the highly irascible and redoubtable Glyde Ryder, or the Missouri Walleye Anglers Association (there's a link on this site) for any info you'll need. Stay on 'em!

Sunshine , go to bullshoals.com/steves/fishreport, go into the archives and you will see its a year around fishery. Awfully tough if you go down there uninformed. About 85 miles long. Summer bite 40 ft, right now virtually motionless Suspending Rogues are the trick. Guides I know are Bill Lawrence 417-794-3349 and Buster Loving at bustersguideservice@inter-linc.net. Both excellent. Now for Bob B from Iceland! You know Bob, you Michigan guys sure do know how to embarrass a guy. I Come on here and get treated like a child molester! Spoon fish deformed--eyes too close to the tail
