This was in the Billings Gazette today. Pray for late winter snow and spring rains. It sounds like we'll need them if we hope to keep the launch ramps open this year. -- mark

DOCKS CLOSED AT OK-A-BEH, BARRY'S LANDING

FORT SMITH – Because of low water levels, ice and hazardous conditions, the courtesy docks and launch ramps at Ok-A-Beh and Barry’s Landing are closed to boat launching until further notice.

The lake elevation of Bighorn Lake has dropped to 3,595 feet, exposing the lower end of the boat ramps at Ok-A-Beh and Barry’s Landing to rocky areas near steep dropoffs. These hazards present very dangerous conditions.

The lake at Barry’s Landing has completely iced over but the ice is not thick. Superintendent Darrell Cook advised those wanting to ice fish to check current conditions by calling the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center in Lovell at (307) 548-2251, ext. 301.

It certainly doen't look good does it? The ramp at Horseshoe Bend has been out of the water since July or August. We need a awful lot of snow in the mountains. Boysen and Tounge River are also very low. The state did use the low water situation last fall to lengthen the ramps at Boysen though.

I've been told some work was done in fall to widen the ramp at Barry's Landing to make it more two-boat friendly. But I don't know they lengthened it any. I'm sure making ramps longer in that canyon must be a little tricky. -- mark
