first and foremost Russell don,t waste your time, the water is up about 6 ft muddy and fast and with all this we did launch and fish that was our mistake, so much debris in the water that every cast you brought back leaves or twigs we did manage 2 fish both small ones mine was really small both sauger, took a ride down river where some friends of mine were fishing they wern,t doing anything either at least thats what they said, after putting the boat back on the trailer we fished the launch area from shore and picked up 3 more fish all sauger but all in all don,t waste your time the river needs to settle down a little bit.

Hey Jim you should have stopped and fished, i wouldn,t mind finding out if the ice is off pymy but if it is it won,t be for long its supposed to stay cold again, just enough to fudge things up, talk to ya later.

Shined the ole Triton up today. Looks pretty good after the bath. Well, guess I could go get some cheese, can of corn and hotdogs and go ketch some TROUT tomorrow! Naaaw!:-) Later
Russell, if we get no more rain man mid week should be great, i may take a day off like thursday or friday i,ll let you know, by the way you can still launch at 13th st we went down river and it didn,t look bad BUT i think you WILL need a 2nd person to help out, talk to ya later. by the way save them chubs for up here and ancor on the ftat and lay one out WHAM.

Fished Pymie today. About 90% of the ice is gone on the south end of the lake. We launched at Duck-n-Drake. We managed 5 keepers and about 7 small ones. all taken on floating jigheads tipped with minnows. We fished for about 3 hours in 20-25 feet of water. There is some loose ice floating around so be careful. North end of the lake still has some ice on it.
jeff could you tell if any launchs were open on the north end like maybe manning, sure not surprised that theres open water though.

hey jeff, how was the wind while you were fishing?
did you need a drift sock? i am planning to go to pymantuning
sometime this spring for first time, trying to decide to invest
in a drift sock. don't know if it would be one of those things
that i would never use. anybody have any advice? worth the money?
thanks,
Ron
Hey Rus, it was a photo finish on the $2. He had me 3-2 late in the game, I hooked one and lost it a few feet out. Thats ok though because we didn't bet. You can be sure that if we would have bet, I would have landed that fish and then followed it up for a 4-3 victory. We had a good time!!
Jeff,
I knew I should have posted on here about Pymatuning. I called the office and they said no way to get a boat out. They usually think in terms of normal fisherman which we are not. Glad to hear you had some luck.
jb
lol jb, didnt want to take it into double overtime eh? Least it wasnt one of those days where at just about dark and you say, Just one more fish and we'll go. ha It would be like the fish could hear ya. Couldnt ketch another to save your ####.:-) Dont think I've ever had a bad day fishin. Been a lot of days with not so as a nib, but never a bad day. ;-) Glad you had a good time.
Ron invest the money for the drift sock you won,t regret it they are great for pymy when the wind kicks up, put it this way it will be the difference in maybe a few fish or loading the boat, Russell he tried to pull that stuff "just one last one" couldn,t get him off that wooden plank at the dock LOL!!!!}> truth is the fishin was tough i mean real tough but like i said mid to late week should be much better if the rains stop up north, and to think me and JB were going to meet at pymy and fish there, instead we hit the river thats what its all about.

Rus,
I agree, a day of fishing is always better than a day at home. I always have fun no matter how many fish we catch.
Ron,
Tom and I were just talking about Pymatuning the other day. Last year was the first year that we both fished it hard. We talked about all that we had learned and agreed that, by far, the driftsock was the single most important piece of equipment. Especially in the spring when the winds kick up. The fish are down there, you just need to keep the presentation slow to get them. I have 2 drift socks.
Tom,
I got your message about Pymatuning. I'm fired up for 2 reasons. One because I'm excited about going and two because I should have known better than to call the office. We could have been up there slamming them as well. I'm going to open back up a post I made about 10 days ago that predicted this. I'm going to ask the guys up in that area to give us a little help with the conditions. If its not open, I'll be at the river.
jb
Gee guys, let poor Russell know when to go.:-) Never been to Pymy. Fished Mosquito a couple times. From what I've learned from you guys just on WC, it's a good place to be a month or so from now. Also would be a good back-up from Erie when you cant get on. Keep us posted jb. I have licenses for 4 states now. Last trip to Barcelona fell thru, so we back tracked to Chatauqua. That was late Oct. Didnt do so good there either. Tom,I hear you speak of Manning. Must be a spot close eh? Wife got me a drift-sock for xmas. Really not sure if its big enough for my Barge. Has a 36 in dia, from Cabellas. Has a ring out of tubing you put together. Well, gotta run Later
Rus,
Manning is one of the launches at Pymatuning. It seemed to be the spring time hot spot last year.
