Has anyone fished Gunflint Lake or Lake Saganaga. We are going up there this June, and just wondering how the walleye fishing is.

Pinecountry,

We stayed on Gunflint once, we felt it was more of a Lake Trout lake than a Walleye lake. We did catch a few 'eyes in Little Gunflint where the water flows in from the portage from Little North.

Most of our fishing here was done on Sag, slip bobbers and/or trolling in Red Rock Bay, Powell's Bay, Curran's Bay, James, Bay and the North East Arm. We also portaged over from Sag to Northern Light (which I would highly recommend).

If you haven't been here before I'd get a guide for at least a day. We have used Seagull Creek (218-388-9929) in the past. Also be sure you have a Remote Border Crossing Pass for all in your party.

We found Gunflint to be a bathtub with trout in it and the locals wonder why anybody would fish for anything BUT trout. Saganaga a better choice for someone who is not a trout afficionado. However, the wild blueberries WERE good....

Gunflint Lodge sucks its a waste of your money.Gunflint lake is a trout lake period.Saganaga is a prime time walleye lake.Stay at Tuscarora Canoe Outfitters.Just up the road from gunflint.Beautiful cabins on round lake.Fishing is better than gunflint by a long shot.Better numbers than saganaga not as much a chance for 12lbers.You won't be dissappointed www.tuscaroracanoe.com Good Luck!

I have stayed at Gunflint pines campground and found it to be a nice place. They do have new owners now. AS most everyone has said it is more of a trout lake. I have had better luck on Sag for eyes. I have a 14' lund so I can hop from lake to lake depending on where the fish are hitting.
