I am heading to Mille Lacs this weekend Feb 8-10. I was wondering what the report has been lately. I am not sure if I should fish the mud or gravel. Also I am looking at renting a sleeper house-any suggestions for a resort? Have the fish been going on the mud or the gravel? Any info would be appreciated.

I have been on the SouthWest side all winter in the rocks at 10". The night bite has been great. Slot fish are hard to find. I consistently get 6 to 11 each night and am lucky to get 1 keeper out of the bunch.

During the day I have pulled a portable out to the 2nd hump and fished in 23 to 26 feet. Spotty results. No perch anywhere, not even little ones.

Rocky Reef Resort may have some house for this weekend. Most of his houses have been doing well this short season with good bites. Again, not many keepers though.

Yep stay on the 10' to 20' reefs and fish the night bite until midnight.
I think the perch are closer to shore shallow flat areas with weedy bottom will produce.
I talked to 4 different parties out this last weekend and the flats that they fished were dead but the reefs produced.

I was up there Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday...and would have stayed Wednesday too but I had to work. The fishing was out of control, from 2am to 4am I got no sleep. Constantly pulling up EYES, the biggest was 26 and the smallest was small (aquarium size LOL) but average seemed to be 19 to 21. Jumbo perch during the day some 12 inchers were caught. Our house is 2 miles out of Flagship Resort in 29 feet, with the camera we can see huge rocks under the house. I would suggest sticking to the rock reefs (deeper edge) for your most consistent bite. Fatheads on glow jigs, or blaze orange gama's. Good Luck FISH ON!

Anyone know of a good place to rent an underwater camera at Mille Lacs and how much they are to rent? We are going this weekend and I'd like to try one out. Thanks!

Go to Lundeen's Tackle castle on the SW corner of the lake, Junction of 169 and 47. Check them out at www.lundeens.com.

Jon,

Johnson's Portside or Lundeen's Tackle Castle should have Aqua-Vu's and depth finders. Not sure on the price so you'll want to call first.

Good luck,

I'm heading up to Mille Lacs Saturday morning. Want to be there in time for the early morning bite. Any suggestions on where to start? what depth to look for? any other info welcome. I'd like to fish on the southern part of the lake.

Morning Paul,
The email you sent me with that link didn't work. I emailed you back, but I don't think you got it?
Try sending that link again. When I clicked on it, it said something like, "This page no longer exists"...hhmmmm?

Have a great day! Talk to you soon.
