Tom,

After hearing all of this great 'press' for HPD, I've got to ask the question: Is there any access to this fishery for the shorebound fisherman?

I hate to admit it, but I haven't had the financial means to purchase my boat yet (perhaps in the next 2 years) and I'm limited to shoreline tactics. Is it possible to get onto these fish from any point on the shore (near HPD)?

Thanks in advance...

Where is HPD? Anywhere near Pittsburgh? I want to get out fishing this weekend and next week, but the reports for Pymatuning are not looking good. I would like to try this place out you guys have been talking about, but I will have to find someone willing to go this early in the season which might be tough. What kind of boat do you guys use there? Would a 16' w/ a 15 h.p. work?

Steve
your boat will be fine there, you,ll have to launch at 13th st in Sharpsburg, thats up river a little from Pittsburgh and on the north shore, Simonsey yes you can wade there there are 2 different ways to get there but they are both a little bit of a walk, is it worth it YES}:>
i,m headin there in the AM, if you guys need any more info post and i,ll be glad to get you on some fish}> thats what its all about}>.

Jim
when it gets to about 0 than i pull out the gloves and fire up the heater, 3 things to remember when out in the cold, keep your feet warm and your head warm and your hands, if you do that you won,t get cold and of course if the fish are biting thats helps out alot}>

Tom what is the biggest boat that you think you could launch at 13th street? I am talking a deep v boat. Your reports are great to read this time of year.

Will I need chest waders to 'wade'? I'm not so sure I want to stand in chest deep water at this time of year! [smile] Been there, done that - even if the fish are biting great I'm not going through that again...

Good Luck tomorrow...

i,m not sure how big your talking but if your talking 17 or 18 ft deep v i see no problem useing that launch, Simonsey hip waders would be more than enough the river is back down so you may not even need hip waders if you go right up by the dam, i would bring them just in case, Bobr if your talking real big deep v i would go to the south side and use that launch only problem is its a 10 to 12 mile ride down the mon and back up the allegheny but there are guys who do it, theres also a launch up river at harmerville but you have to come down and lock thur its a pain in the butt if you have to wait for barges or other river traffic.

Anyone heading to that area during this next week? I am having trouble finding someone thats willing to get out this early. I'm gonna keep on a few guys though. What is this section of river like:shallow, riffles? Also, how far from 13th street launch do you have to travel downstream once on the water? I can't wait to get out on Pymatuning too, I talked to a boat dealer yesterday and he said he had a boat out yesterday morning in the south end. Good luck you guys.

Steve, once you launch at 13th st., you'll be looking at the dam upstream about a half mile. If Tom left any today, you should have a pretty good time there. Tom can fill you in on more info. He should have a report later on this evening. Bout all you'll need is some jigs-n-minnies or blade baits. Good luck!
