What's the best battery (deep-cycle & starting)on the market now. Anyone using Optima? What about Thunder?

Check out Trojan Batteries. For my money they are the ones to get. Special coating on the plates enable their batteries to take a better charge more often resulting in a lower cost for the number of Amp hour available. Batteries are a very poor place to skimp. I like to fish not fuss with equipment. Good luck.

I didn't "skimp" on the batteries, just the price.
Wal-Mart does a heck of a battery for the price.
The Extremes they sell are made by Johnson Control/Interstate. Very reliable and also take and hold a good charge. The price for a 27 series was in the $53.00 range.

Been very happy with Trolling Thunder so far (ProPak pushing a MK 824), but just going into third season, so it's early yet. Extremely quick recharge, and still perform like new. So we'll see. Good luck. John.

The Walmart Extremes get my vote, too. I ran 4 of them in my last boat during a 4 yr period. Had to return one.
I run the optima starting battery. It is expensive, however, this it the new technology and there is no equal to them.
I have been very happey with Dynamic 140 AMP deep cycle batteries. Run 3 for a 36 volt system.

I'm running Trojan Marine SC 225's for my electric motor, and the Trojan start/deep Cycle for my main.

http://nyquist.ee.ualberta.ca/~schmaus/dcbat.html will answer a lot of battery questions, not the least of which are all the various brands made by the few manufacturers. It won't tell you who's sponsered by which brand, however.
