Riprap I've only fished on the lower river at marinette-- monominee. I was wondering where sturgeon falls is? How is the walleye fishing there? Any helpful hints as to where how what to use with out giving secret spots away would be appreciated. I have fished 2 dams up from marinette (right outside of town) and the smallmouth fishing is fantastic. I have caught some walleyes there but not many. Tim

Bob, I'm not sure when bass opens? I go up there to fish walleyes in the spring and fall. If I can't catch walleyes in the fall then I go up river (2 dams up) and fish smallmouths. This whole section of river hold smallies and I mean some big one too!!! I have never caught such big smallies anywhere like I have here!! Biggest is 20in. and numerous 16 to 19in. I know there are bigger ones in there. If you go please catch and release I would hate to see this fishery depleted. Tim

From a boat. I drift or use my electric motor and I use leeches or minnows or crawlers with small jig or lindy rig. Tim

Riprap,
There use to be a boat landing about a quarter
mile below the rapids of Piers Gorge. I haven't fished
since the Champion paper mill put a pipe running into the
Menominee at about the same area as the boat landing was. Anyways
you can find the landing by turning off US 8 just before
get to Niagara towards Norway as soon as you go over bridge
on the Menominee take a left at the first road follow it down
to the landing. If the boat landing is the same as I remember
it is a very tricky one to get your boat launched from. My wifes
cousin also fishes in a boat below the dam at Niagara so there
has to be a dead end road there to launch your boat from. Also
if you do fish below the dam at Niagara don't fish up by the
dam because they let water out without any warning. The last
time I fished there we did real good on bass and bluegills.
I hope this helps.

You have open water below the dam all the way to the interstate bridge. Froze up downstream from there all the way to the mouth. Lots of ice in the mouth and in the bay because some recent NE winds blew lots of ice to the west shore. The boat landings still have ice in front of them, but shore fishing is being done. The landing on Stephenson Island will be the first one available to lauch at, once the weather warms up. The other landings won't be far behind. The weather is turning colder again and it is snowing out right now. Last month at this time I figured the Menominee would be wide open by now along with the bay, but the last 30 days have gotten colder and more like winter :-(
