When vertical Jigging with spoons, do you use a snap or a snap swivel? Does vertical jigging work in the summer for walleyes, lake trout and pike? Do you suggest mono or some other type of line? Is this a good method to use with active, neutral or inactive fish?

thanks, Mike

I am no expert here, but will offer my opinion. I ALWAYS use ball bearing snap swivels with jigging spoons. I still get a fair amount of line twist. I prefer Fireline since if gives me a better feel. Most times I use them is in deeper water, so I get a bit more benefit of the Fireline. I don't fish them for trout, but have heard many good things about them. Good Luck!

Read the instructions on the back of the blister pack. I just
got Norhtland Fire-eye Minnow and Buck-Shot Spoon. They say to use snap or swivel. Some want you to tie direct so you don't kill the action. If you don't use a swivel, I think you need to run the line behind your boat occasionally to straighten it.

PS: The ones I have seen that want you to tie direct usually have split rings.

Use a swivel about two feet up from the spoon. This will eliminate the line twist. Then just tie the leader direct to the split ring and you should be good to go.

Using fireline actually causes less fatigue.

Those that have slabbed at Big Mac, know what slabbing arm feels like.

What do you run from the barrel swivel to the lure -fluorocarbon?
What size barrel swivel does it take to do the job? Thanks.

Yes spoons work in the summer. When its calm and times are tough I even verticle jig under my bow mount with the Vexilar just like on ice. I retie quite a bit so I don't normally use a swivel but when I do its 2 feet up the line with an appropriate leader. I like to use a Rapala Knot at the spoon so that it has maximum action.

I would usually just use whatever is in my tackle box, but I think Flouro would be best and then as far as swivels, just whatever. Sorry I can't be more help than that.

I USE THE DURO-LOCK SWIVEL, SMALLEST I CAN FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE SPOON. I USE SPIDERWIRE LINE AND IT WORKS ALL YEAR. IF YOU FISH FOR TROUT OR SALMON IT WORKS JUST AS GOOD IN THE SUMMER AS THROUGH THE ICE.
