My holders are from "Burts Custom Tackle" which are sold in Cabelas catalog. I troll using big dispys and after loosing a couple of poles due to broken plastic pole holders, I switched to the strongers holder I could find..

Cabelas 'Quick Draw', holds any kind of rod, grab your rod and pull and it releases instantly. Also they come in a sand color which matches the deck on my new Pro V. The flush mount bases look really sharp and work well also.

Me too!! Bert's are some heavy duty mothers. Also tracks accept step pad inserts if you like. 5 vertical positions and unlimited horizontal adjustment. Holders sit on the gunnel, and the rod butts do not interfer with getting live well or rod lockers open. Not cheap, but they are the best I've found. Man I sound like an advertisement. But you asked. Hope this helps.

'Fish-On' rod holders. That would be my choice. I look at it from a trolling stanpoint and only troll will level-wind reels so versatility doesn't matter to me. If I am using a spinning rod, I'd better have it in my hand unless it is rigged with slip bobbers. :) Good fish'n!!!

Have used Roberts and Fish On in the past. Now use the standard Cabela's model. Of the three, Cabelas gets my vote. Some of the gunnels on todays glass boats have a really curved inside edge. When trying to side mount Roberts or Fish On it's impossible to get them high enough so that they turn completely around. Also the Roberts rattle in the holders and seem to get worse with use. They also have a sharp inside edge that shaves cork handles on trolling rods without some reworking. Cabela's (Scotty) locking ring works in both directions and is smooth. Their mounts give you a couple options. They stay put, are priced right, come in three colors and have a good warranty-take your pick. Tom

I have used both the Roberts and Scotty, like the Scotty holders better. They are strong enough for dipsey divers and wire line. Last year I had one fall of my boat. The next day I went back over the same route and found it. it had been run over by a grader that had been putting down a new shoulder. It wasn't broken and just put it back on my boat. Believe it or not. Good Luck, Doug

I am now running my third boat outfitted with Setzer rod holders. This was a small operator in the Chicago suburbs, but the name is still used even tho some big company has bought it. They can be found anywhere along the Lake Mich shore from Chicago to Door County. The offer fixed, rail mount, adjustable, and a variety of configurations -- rigging potential is superb. A specific shop you might try is Salmon Connection in Winthrop Harbor, IL.

I'm afraid I have to be another advocate of Berts Custom Tackle Rod Holders. I use the track mounting system for the holders and to easily remove my downriggers when not used. They are alittle pricey but I don't believe you'll ever have to buy another as they are built solid. Hey ETT we should get a kick back for this ...lol

After using several diferent brands of holders mentioned here, I'm rigging my new boat with Tite Loc again. The same base fits 3 different styles of their holders. The bases are flat low profile and I haven't found one single rod holder that does all anyway. The Tite Locs have more adjustment positions, too.

Tite-Locs on my downrigger board for downrigging and planer boards, because they're adjustable, easily removed, and sturdy.
Fish-Ons on my gunwhales for flat-line trolling, because I've had them forever and keep transferring them from boat to boat.

My boat has Tite Loks. I like the ability to adjust the angles of the rod if I need to. When using dipseys, I want the rod almost horizontal with the water, when pulling in line boards, I want the rod vertical, and the rod tip as high as I can get it.Also, your gonna get what you pay for in quality and service. Had a brand new one lose a black rod protector when I pulled a rod out with a fish. Called the company, and they sent me one free. At that time I was told they were having a problem with the adhesive. No Problems since.
They also have a number of different mounting options. You can buy the holder and a mount seperately. If you sell your boat, you can take them with you.

I've been using Tite-Lok rod holders for trolling with planer boards and dipsey divers. They are fully adjustable and can be used like the Berts tracks & inserts. They have provided me with excellant service the past 7 years and they are a little less expensive than the Berts

I'm using Scotty Strikers, they are very strong and durable. They are very adjustable to suit any situation you might need them.

I've been using fishon for a few years and they work just fine.

I've got Fish-Ons, but lately have been reconsidering as you can't point them down toward the water. Sometimes I'd like the tip of the rod to be just above the water surface when trolling, and with Fish-Ons you only have a 90' (horizontal to vertical) vertical adjustment angle. Next boat I might go with the Rams.
I agree w/ TerryMac - Fish-On by Tempress. I've used them for years with no problems.

I bought the cabelas quick strike models last year, and I like them quite a bit. I havn't had any problems yet, and i hope that the twenty year warranty will never need to be used.

Guys....have you heard of Snap-loc rod holder?
Been to a fishing show in Long Beach, CA and saw them doing a demo. Woww... ingenious design, unit came with a universal adapter..good for rail, top deck and also side mounting.
Got two units for my boat and it did very well. Was told it came with lifetime warranty too. Not too bad for $50.00 ( 2 units. )Gotta check 'em out.
