Beautiful clear blue 34.6 degrees had a hit on the 3rd lift and drop, minnows all had blood in their tails, small light biters. Had 2 good schools move through. Windyyy Zip on fish for all the hit's? It is really tough to set the hook on those small fish that deep.

Proably should of switched over to the chugger I dredged up. Has anybody downriver Detroit river got the water temp?

Cangl, do you usually fish the St Clair river in the spring? I am new at river fishing and comtemplating whether or not to go down to the Det river and fight the crowds and marinas that are in rough neighborhoods, or head up to St Clair and try there? When does the fishing usually pick up there? When I fished there years ago....I usually launch in Marine City. Is that launch at the hotel still open? Any info would be appreciated.

Most all the ramps have been updated and open all year. The Marine City ramp is open all year and a little expensive. The current is stronger up there as you move south it slows and there are alot of bends and cuts. Jig fishing runs a week or two later then the Detroit as it stays cooler because of Lake Huron. 1st week of May its good right into the fishfly's.

The locals are still taking fish chugging and on days you can fish a light enough jig you can take fish I favor dark days as the water usaully is clear blue. 40ft plus has been it, deeper then that those smaller fish will beat your bait to death, the tail fins are missing or bloodied quickly. Sunny days even deeper the morning bite has always been good for eaters. Practice, practice ;)
